Official Mardis Gras/Lent thread of boozing and penitence

What's everyone doing? Even though I'm not religious I really enjoy fasting and I find Lent to be a beneficial exercise in discipline and self improvement so I participate every year. What are you giving up?

It's an annual tradition that I give up Lent for Lent.

It's an annual tradition that I give up saying "I'm giving up lent for lent."

I'm in Mobile Alabama the birthplace of Mardi Gras and it's been interesting. Been to some parades saw their party street (featuring Studio 5'4"), have heard more NYC rap than anything else here (only 2 Lil Wayne songs) have gone to a Bass Pro Shop, have seen a crowd cheer the loudest for a Ducky Dynasty themed float (while seeing all of the DD merch deeply discounted at the aforementioned Bass Pro Shop) and have seen more churches than ever before in my life

Also was told the reason the South seceded was due to rich northerners who moved to the south in order to become wealthy slave owners. So really the civil war wasn't the south's fault at all, guys.

When you give up something for lent, do you give it up forever or just the year? I'm painfully uneducated on the rituals of shame-based faith.

Until Good Friday (friday before easter) or Easter Sunday.

missed this. MG this year was fucking odd. 30 deg and sleet kept everyone in but the wild ones. parades still rolled, everyone just caught like 30x normal in addition to being drunk and miserable.

as for lent, I like the idea of feast before famine (it diminishes the sacrifice!) but whatever to giving anything up.
