don't give a single shit about the graphics. the most insulting thing about this game is how generic it looks.

it's GTA without any of the fun (aka GTAIV)

Couldn't care so long as it's bullet physics and penetration look the same as the trailer. It could look like a PS2 game at that point and I'd still play it for that.

Re: Watch Doges
« Reply #23 on: March 06, 2014, 07:00:19 PM »
Still think this might be Ps360 footage.

I kinda want this to be great to play but with graphics that disappoint everyone so only a cultured elite will play and enjoy it.  :-*

I suspect it might be good actually, as long as the concept is in tact and used well (being able to affect traffic signals, hack civilians etc.) - that bridge lighting is almost funny tho

Calling it now: Batman trailer will have created the same distorted expectations when we get a gameplay trailer

Honestly, the game doesn't look so bad. I think people are overestimating this downgrade somewhat. Lighting definitely looks mad flat now though :kobeyuck

yeah but the visuals were the big reason people were excited about it.  two years ago it was believed to be the first next gen game.

:yeshrug bullvideo is the new bullshots. If you thought shit was gonna run like that on consoles including last gen... that framerate, all those reflections, those shadows and their quality, all those interactive lights, you lost

it was clearly running on devkits

not disagreeing, but we're talking 2012.  people were hankering for next gen and they got watch dogs and that star wars uncharted.  this was so long ago some people believed that watch dogs demo was the wii u version.

and yeah, iirc it was on a 680.  but that might've been the ue4 demo.

Well, anything pre-release is going to be running on devkits. The problem is using the devkit outside the target spec of the consumer hardware. But I'm guessing that's what you meant...?

I dunno, Assassins Creed was launch window and had visuals significantly more in line with their pre-launch hype.

assassin's creed turned out better than some of the previews.  I think it was microsoft's e3 2006 when it was demoed live and buggy.  it was one of those first last gen games that looked "new" with altair turning and  groping people as he walked by instead of bumping into them.

graw and rainbow six vegas also looked great at the time

Yeah Ubisoft was pretty amazing at the begining of last gen and then:

Rainbow Six went missing.

Ghost Recon Future took forever to come out only to have an identity crisis and basically be ignored.

Assassins Creed became an annual open world clone and a model for it's other open world games where you just throw a bunch of crap in it to make up for the ambition that you ignore in the sequel(Far Cry 2--Far Cry 3).

Splinter Cell rebooted and rebooted and then well whatever...

Some bright spots with Blood Dragon, but Ubisoft has been pretty mediocre to me.

I probably should have picked that up when it was one of the first Games With Gold promotions. I just didn't see myself backlogging ANOTHER fps. I've still got Quake 4 from when it was $30 used.  :-\

One of the drawbacks of getting that 24" 1080p monitor/tv for my office/cave is that I really notice stuff I never used to notice before. When I was playing PS3 Red Dead Redemption on a 37" 1366x768 TV from 8 feet away, I thought it looked fine in comparison to the 360 version.  Two feet away at 1080p though is  :kobeyuck

Image quality is not to be underestimated, especially on PC. CoD Ghosts has a setting they call "Image Quality", which defaults to "Normal". It's actually rendering resolution, and the default was below 1080 for sure. Looked like a blurry mess when I first started it up.
Planetside 2 is the only other PC game I know of that lets you do that.

Aren't most pc monitors shit at scaling? I have a decent Dell, but anything that isn't native res just looks ugly. Kinda sucks because it means going below 1080 for perfomance issues is not really an option.

You should let your GPU do it, in that case, though I don't know if it's any better. This was in-engine though, which I imagine games can do through hardware as well. Looked shit either way.

Quote
On new-gen systems the game will run at 900p on PS4 and 792p on Xbox One, at 30 frames-per-second on both consoles. While some new-gen games now offer native 1080p, Morin says it’s much more important to deliver an amazing next-gen experience than it is to push a few more pixels onto a screen.

Resolution is a number, just like framerate is a number. All those numbers are valid aspects of making games,” he says. “But you make choices about the experience you want to deliver. In our case, dynamism is everything. Exploration and expression are everything. You want to have a steady framerate, but you want to have dynamism at the core of the experience.

Quote
Which, naturally raises the question: why not focus on increasing the resolution during the game’s recent delay? Because, Morin says, that was never the goal. Instead, that extra time was spent ensuring the team could fully realize their vision for Watch Dogs, polishing all aspects of the gameplay and making sure hacking is fully integrated into every system. (For more, see: Why Was Watch Dogs Delayed?) “The effort was split on continuing dynamism and making sure players can express themselves through hacking without ever being disappointed in how the game responds to them, whether it’s visually or through gameplay,”

people thought the xbox one version would run at 900p 30fps.

I don't know which is worse, high or low expectations getting shattered.
