people thought the ps4 version would run at 1080p 60fps.

people thought the xbox one version would run at 900p 30fps.

I don't know which is worse, high or low expectations getting shattered.

Need a return of the setting the bar low campaign

Jonathan Morin, the creative director of Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs has just revealed some information about the minimum requirements for the game. According to his official twitter , Watch Dogs will not run on dual-core CPUs. .... He also said that any CPU that scores 9,000-10,000 on Intel’s PassMark would be able to run the game on Ultra and scores of 7,000 and higher would be capable to run the game on Medium-High settings (assuming all other requirements are fulfilled).

As for RAM, the minimum RAM required to start game is 6GB. Any lower and you won’t be able to play. Answering a tweet if 4GB RAM was sufficient, he replied

“The main issue is your ram. If you climb it up to 6 you should be able to run the game at low settings.“

Coming to GPU, he also said that “90% of the dev team runs on Nvidia Geforce 670, that will run Ultra if you have the CPU to match.”.

Demoed it via the usual means.

It seems perfectly competent. I mean it certainly didn't blow me away to the level of the hype. But then I was never on the hype train like gaf so my expectations towards it were never out of wack. It seems very much like it could have easily existed in the 360/PS 3 generation. Which once again is not a diss. There is nothing wrong with that. It's just sort of odd how this came to be the poster boy for next gen.

It looks okay I guess. I mean I turned it up just to see what it looked like on the high end and it didn't really blow me away either on that aspect. It doesn't seem especially well optimized so I turned it down to like medium after that but then I'm not a crazy graphics guy.

It feels exactly how you would expect. Like the people who made Assassin's Creed made an open world game. It has the same kind of feel and mission design even though the environments and such are modern and it has hacking and stuff. When you play it, it will feel like an ubisoft game. That's both good and bad for different reasons.

The driving feels a bit stiff and slow. The roads feel a bit narrow. It didn't feel as fun navigating the world as say GTA 5. And btw whatever they say after playing it, its pretty clear they delayed it because they knew they needed separation from GTA 5. Releasing when they originally planned would have been a disaster because this game doesn't feel as epic as that title did. Once again that's not the diss it sounds like. If this came out at any other time, it would be fine. It would be judged on its own merits and flaws. But coming out so close GTA, it would suffers in comparison with that title.

One aspect I do like is that stealth seems to be an option. The second mission you have to infiltrate a construction site and hack something. I suppose you could go in guns blazing and just kill everyone and do it but it was fun to do it in a stealth way. And the way I did it is probably not the way some other person would do it. I like that. That is something that GTA doesn't really have as nearly every situation in that game is resolved by a shootout and if there is stealth, its a very prescribed version of it. This felt more free.

The voice acting and general story seem awful. I'm also not a fan of serious business tone but that's just a personal opinion.

It seems "okay". It's not revolutionary and its not a trainwreck. It seems like most video games that exist. I would guess it would get like 8's in reviews by the mainstream media but I've only played a bit so who knows how it continues and how the game continues to progress.

Part of me wonders if this was ever going to be the Assassins' Creed modern setting game. There are always those near-future sequences in AC, very, very limited glimpses into the world where... is it "Desmond"? Where the assassin descendent is running through the office or a parking garage and then BACK TO THE PAST, FLUNKY. This is another game with stealth and action and an amazing killer going against secret organizations... hey.

Final mission of a sequel going to be rescuing Desmond and merging the two series.

Assassin Dogs: Watch Creed

Where a bunch of doge ninja assassins go around killing people to uncover and stop a plot involving forcing the entire planet to watch Creed's music videos because of hidden encoded secret messages that activate human DNA.

Maybe

Or it could be the limitations of their engine that make the games feel very similar. The movement still feels a bit off like in Assassin's Creed.

Playing a bit more and yeah the stealth in this game is the best thing going for it. It feels better than Assassin's Creed which always felt like a sub-par stealth game imo (I didn't play the last one so maybe it got better in that regard). You have enough tools and maneuvers and hacking ability to make the stealth fun and make you feel powerful against the AI. the AI isn't great or anything. In fact its pretty dumb. But whatever. That's the case with most stealth games. Otherwise its a standard open world game. But the stealth options make it more fun.

I really don't like the city structure compared to GTA. It's like GTA knows how the make the world. The streets are big enough so that you can use your vehicles how you want. I constantly feel like the city streets are cramped in this one and that driving is a bit more of a pain than I want it to be. Maybe that's just something it takes time to get use to. But I also think its partially a design thing that rockstar is better at.

Yeah, I feel that Rockstar's world building is consistently the best in OWGs. The use of landmarks, color, building style are quite accomplished. I feel like I know where I am and which way I'm facing most of the time. But what I think you mean are player metrics for the size of vehicles, size and amount of NPC vehicles, and their placement on the streets at any time. I think they're spot-on there most times as well.

The feeling in GTA III and V when you're blowing down a major boulevard at full speed, and threading the gap between two cars stopped for the red light you're ignoring is... pretty awesome. It's a great way to lose cops on your tail.

I never managed to feel in control enough of the cars in IV to pull it off consistently, which lead to stress, which lead to me not trying it very often.

Driving in Saints Row has never been a high point; SR I and II, the cars handled as though they were on rails; no slop, no spin, no fishtail -- just varying degrees of acceleration. In SRtT and SR IV the physics improved but still never felt as polished as GTA.

I completely agree the graphics are underwhelming although I would argue that's a case of original sin in that the overhype was based on graphics which is a gateway drug for overhype when it comes to the hardcore section of the market. It was presentedly falsely. But that always happens with this next gen stuff shown early during the current gen.

I would argue the bigger problem is the gameplay isn't anything especially new.

That being said, that same argument applies to pretty much all of the current gaming market. It just seems like this one is getting punished a bit more harshly because of the hype backlash.

I legit don't think the game is "bad" or anything when compared relative to what is out on the market. It just doesn't stand above anything else on the market either. Which is where the hype machine problem arises.

I wanted this game to bomb too! why? because it's like a monolith of everything wrong with modern western gaming it's just more noticeable than usual because this game was also supposed to be a next gen showcase

Boring sandbox,drivey,gunny gameplay? check
Serious "cinematic" story? check
Overblown trailer that has nothing to do with the actual game? check
Bugs indicating minimal amount of fuck? check
Extreme advertising push? check

This game finding success has damned us to at least 2-3 more snore worthy sandbox games
