Not sure if I want to play this.  Didn't think I wanted to because it looked like a boring turd and Ubisoft collect-a-thon games are all dull and repetitive but at least with AC I like the universe and stabbing people from above.

But some people are really digging this, but TVC likes AC like me and really hates this.  What to think >_<

Probably will wait until it's $20.  Looking at the PC specs thread it seems like my Nvidia 580 which is roughly equivalent to the modern Nvidia 780 will run this about the same as PS4 ("high settings", 30fps).  So whichever drops to $20 first I'll grab.  Actually wanted to try using redbox for the first time ever to try out this and Wolfenstein but apparently PS4 games on redbox haven't rolled out to So CA yet :(

Videos of it look fun enough to me.

TRU has B1G40% off for this and Wolfenstein, I will probably do that. It's not like anything else is coming out for the next 4 months.

Not a bad idea. Although it's guaranteed these games be cheaper by the end of the year. Especially Watch Dogs since Ubi games drop like rocks.

I think Jeff's review from Giantbomb is pretty much dead on. One thing I completely agree with how garabage and disjointed the story is. (I felt the same about the AC games). Like in GTA whether you like or don't like the story is a personal opinion thing, but I always generally understand what I'm doing and why I'm doing it.

In this game, it all very confusing. You forgot why you are doing the things you are doing because it seems quite odd. And you are constantly getting calls before you start a mission while you are on a mission, and you wonder what the hell the person is talking about. Is he talking about this mission. Or the next mission.

I guess I just don't understand why this particular game is catching so much hell. So far it's no more/less buggy than any other OW game I've ever played (not that I think it's particularly good). Same with the mediocre storylines and brain-dead AI for NPCs and cops. I mean, I love RDR, but it's full of glitches, and the story goes nonsensical around the Mexico section. Also, you can shoot up a bunch of whores and a dozen marshals, and as long as you outrun the red circles on the map you can come back to the same town two minutes later and no one acts like they know who the fuck you are. You run up in a gang hideout with a posse after you, then you have two groups of knuckleheads trying to take you down while ignoring each other. It's that way in every OW game. The cops and bad guys stop chasing you after a while so you can get on with the game. If they hardlined that kind of realism the AI would never stop, and you'd never be able to finish.

I guess I just don't understand why this particular game is catching so much hell.

It's the hype machine. People are backlashing on it. I also agree I don't think its a bad game or anything. But the hype was at such a level that just a normal or just slighty better than normal game was going to get ragged on.

The game definitely has flaws. Large ones I would argue in some cases. It's nowhere near as good as something like GTA 5 or RDR. I don't even think its as good as Sleeping Dogs honestly but that's about the level its probably at. Maybe slightly worse for me than Sleeping Dogs which I quite liked.

But yeah its not a trainwreck like some make it out to be. It's all about what you expected coming into the game.

My only problem so far beyond the genericness is that this dosen't seem to be a good recreation of Chicago. Which is kind of the only reason I bought the game.

Yea, but by the end of the year I will be playing Destiny or something. I can't think of a single retail release I want until then so I might as well have something to do in the meantime. $36 is good enough and I was tempted enough by Wolfenstein to pay full price for it anyway.

I ordered them, free shipping is slow as fuck so next week I guess.

Why didn't you like AC4?  The pirate story was not bad at all for a videogame, especially if you like pirates and are interested in the tale of the golden age of pirates.  Sailing around was fun and the gameplay was more refined/fun/less glitchy than 3.  Only real downsides were the pointless collect-a-thon items, a handful of poor main missions and the story skipped around A LOT and was not presented as well as it could've been.  But Kenway was a good lead.
