PHOENIX DARK MOVIE THEATER: Aliens Special Edition
« on: August 11, 2006, 07:47:49 PM »

This, my friends, is how you do a sequel. There is no denying that the original Alien is a science fiction classic, but Aliens takes everything seen in the original and perfects it. More aliens. More action. And best of all, more cum bleeding androids!

"My programming ensures that I could never harm a human. But you can bet your female testes that I can impregnate you with my fingers Ripley."

Watching this movie in some ways makes me sad. Alas, they don't make action/goth horror movies like this anymore. The movie is very well written, and the acting does its job. Not Oscar worthy of course, but I'll take Vasquez's quotables over Bogart's anytime.

"All I want to know is where do aim. Anywhere, anytime. Just show me the alien."
"You mean illegal alien? Signing up for a job har har amirite?"
"Fuck you Hudson!"

"Alright men, assholes and elbows! GO GO GO"

"Guess she don't like the cornbread either"

"GAME OVER MAN! GAME OVER!"

The SE also ads some cool scenes. Seeing the little kids play on the space station, and then it deserted when Ripley and the marines arrive, adds more perspective to what happened. Damn those aliens.

I'm surprised someone with your tastes could find a film like Aliens enjoyable in the slightest  ::)

It's a classic movie, and it's influence is still being seen today in movies as well as videogames. StarCraft is perhaps one of the best examples of a game influenced by the genre Starship Troopers (the book) created and Aliens introduced to the masses.

Aliens is pretty great, but I'm not sure Cameron's cut makes it better.  The Aliens discs in general have the best and most honest behind-the-scenes documentaries I've seen on DVDs.  There's no revisionist history in any of 'em.

I prefer Alien.  Actually, for the most part, I like Alien 3 better than Aliens.

Aliens is a big dumb action movie.  I'll take suspense over that any day, even flawed (but good) suspense.

Aliens is a "big dumb action" movie, and Robocop is...good? What...WHAT?

Speaking of Robocop, although I'm not a fan of the movie there's no denying that the stop motion animation featured in it is very good. Aliens came out in 1986 and used similar animation, and it still looks good today imo.

Robocop is hardly an action movie by any standards.  I can probably count the number of real action scenes on one hand.  As has been stated before, Robocop is a cleverly written satire that is still a fun movie even if you miss it.  Not only is it a nice satire, but the world of today is unfortunately similar to the SUV-lovin' privatized nightmare we live in today.

Especially the work print version in the quadrilogy set, which really fleshes out some of the characters and scenes, making you wonder what Fincher could've done had he been given a bit more control.

I agree for the most part.  There's no revisionist history, but it's what the don't cover in the documentary for Alien 3 that is revisionist of a sort.  And notice that present-day Fincher doesn't appear at all in it, and they're forced to use only old clips of him, because he's still upset over the whole shoot.  The documentary skims over and omits MANY of the problems that plagued that film.  Which is too bad, because like you said, the documentaries otherwise are near perfect.

The first Alien is by far the best of the series. Aliens is fun, but it's really dumb.
