I still have no idea wtf the difference between tex mex and the real shit is. every damn Mexican restaurant I been to around here looks sorta like the shit himu posted. is there some secret magical foods that real places have or is it similar to tex mex but with better flavor

No. I'm not from Dallas. You're better off using yelp or Google. Search for best taquerias.

If you go to Dallas, and don't stop by a taqueria, and get TEX MEX instead, I will cry. Florida Mexican food is shit. You've got all these Cubans and shit, saying their food is Mexicanos and blargh. Go to a local authentic Mexican taqueria. Order a burrito and two tacos.

In Texas cities, you should be able to find a taqueria like on most city blocks. Just research.

Also, Tex Mex is amazing. And you guys are all crazy.

Have you guys been to Chili's yet, and tried their Texas Fries? Golden fries, generous cheddar cheese, bacon, jalapenos, drizzle some ranch on top of that and your heart will quiver like maracas.

They also have this dessert, Molten Cake, which is like a chocolate cake with gooey chocolatey inside. And get this... it comes with a scoop of ice cream on the side. BOOM!

I'm hardly a food snob. But Tex Mex is generally trash. It's not an exaggeration at all, and if you're going to Texas, I'd highly suggest eating at a taqueria. But apparently that's an exaggeration, but keep pumping up the Tex Mex love when I can have the opportunity to not have to deal with any of that shit.

I had someone bring me a jerk burrito from my favorite restaurant in Wilmington, NC to Charlotte. Which was only like a 2 1/2, 3 hour drive, but it was still nasty by the time I ate it.

Man, you're insane. South Florida has a few authentic Mexican restaurants run by Mexicans FOB. It's not Southern California levels of good but it's the closest I've found to real Mexican food on this coast. I haven't been to South West Texas so I'm sure it's better there than the Dallas/Austin area.

If they serve huitlacoche (CORN SMUT) then it's a legit place.

I ate a bit of Mexican there since Mexican is my favorite food and most were solid. I guess I shouldnt say it was bad, it was p. decent. Loved the Cuban and Puerto Rican too. That said, Florida had better Mexican than North Carolina or New York City.

Yeah, Central sucks for Mexican and all food besides "American" cuisine. The only exceptions are Cuban in Tampa (which still doesn't hold a candle to Miami) and Bern's in Tampa which is the best steak house on the East Coast outside of NYC/Boston. If you want good food it's all in Miami.

Cheesecake Factory makes some pretty amazing Horchata and Huarache though. Order that with a Tequila Cheesecake (called Tequilaxico in Mexican) and you're good to go.
