played the US import version (obviously called FFIII) back at x-mas 94. It was glorious.

only sad thing was that last half of the ending scene went black with an adapter (known issue)

Final Fantasy VI still has the best ending an rpg could ever have. A 30 minute epic, that closes ALL the stories on ALL the characters and wraps it up with a tight bow and beautiful, beautiful music.

The ending theme is a 21 minute song.

On the Super Nintendo.

Ahead of its time and still unmatched in many ways today.

Bow the fuck down.

such an epic game. opens with a 20-hour quest that shamed damn near every other jrpg out, then gives you a huge open world full of SHITLOADS of side content. and that soundtrack :lawd

Too many characters, weak second half, good villain, some nice moments, nice amount of side stuff and secrets. Nice detailed graphics. Esper system is come and go for me.

Solid entry.

I think this is probably the best part of the game.

Really cinematic and leads to one of the best songs in the series.

The game is pretty good, probably my third favorite FF.

Almost the same here.

My parents actually went through small ads in my video game magazine and managed to buy it together with the adapter for. I didn't understand how the adapter worked at first (that I had to insert a pal game in the second slot to make it work, the manual was missing) and couldn't play it at first. Luckily I got Blackthorne as a back up. A couple of days later, I figured it out and was hocked. I remember playing it on new years eve 94, all the kids went out to start the fireworks and my little nerd ass couldn't stop playing this game  :lol

nuh uh! anniversary don't work for sequels and only work if the number is divisible by 5, i'm afraid you'll have to wait 4 more years to have a 25 year anniversary thread about the original virtua fighter :wag

I got pranked when I bought FF6. I had previously played Secret of Mana and that was my intro to Square RPGs. I loved Secret of Mana, so next up was FF6. I read all the EGM and Gamefan previews. I went over each screenshot. I went into Electronics Boutique several times asking if it was out yet. FInally, I go there and they have it. I had been saving my birthday money for it, so I'm like dish me up that RPG. I get it, take it home, open it up and pop it into the SNES.... and it's Super Mario World.

I start freaking out a bit. I thought the world had played a prank on me. I was like no game could have street fighter moves, airships AND robots right? It was all an elaborate prank on me.

My mom took it back to EB. Turns out someone had already bought the game, carefully peeled off the sticker on the cart and then reapplied it to a Super Mario World cart, and then returned the game. They gave me a new copy and happy fun time.

No, ff6 on gba with snes music.

we need to figure out if Beezy has played Chrono Trigger.

There's an annual FF5 playthrough, so you should join then. It starts in June or July and ends in August. I suggest playing FFIV before V, though, because it will familiarize yourself with all the classes and their abilities, which will make V a lot less overwhelming.

Also I'd suggest playing FF1 down the line. Best version, Origins, is on psn for psx.

I remember the christmas party of that year; my cousins got this for christmas with Super Punch Out, and I got NHL '95 and brought Mortal Kombat 2. We played that stuff endlessly, switching from games to games, challenging each other with our other cousins; fucking memories of eating tons of good food, drinking liters of cola and having our older cousins take sips of their beers; we played non-stop until we had headaches. Near the end, he let me tried FF6 and I was blown away by how much of an improvement it was over FF4; he let me borrow the game for a couple of days until the next party. Going home, I spent the next 4 days playing it as much as possible. I remember that he had his snes hooked up to his huge boombox, a novel thing at the time,  and that we alternated from the game audio to music cds he had received that year, stuff like Aerosmith and Pearl Jam.

What a classic.

the years haven't been very kind to nes dq1/2 either.  but yeah, when you consider dq3 was just a couple months after ff2 and ff3 came just after dq4, it's kind of hilarious how far ahead dq was on the nes/famicom.  ff did a great job of catching up in the 16bit gen tho.  dq5 was bangin' but dq6 was a turd.  meanwhile ff was beginning a hot streak that didn't end the whole generation.

Well DQ1 is tolerable and I like DQ2 even tho it is flawed as fuck. It is a cute Wizardry clone.

FF had a perfect run in the snes era. A lot of people praise 7-9 psx era but nuh uh. Snes era of FF kicks its ass in terms of quality. I do prefer psx era Squaresoft as a whole though.

i like dq4 for it's characters (whatever little characterization there might be), dq5 for it's premise and dq8 for it's amazing presentation... the first dragon quest is an ancient game (you don't even have a party) that should only be played for curiosity reason, dq2 is pretty much the same (but you actualy have a party now!) dq3 and dq6 are pretty similiar game, they both have an high encounter rate, some dull "FETCH THE MAGIC ITEM" bits and generaly just couldn't catch my attention (i haven't played much of DQ3 though) i tried getting into them several times and i always quit somewhere in the middle, they both have job system if you are into those (though 3 is more closed in a "pick your class and stick with them" way where DQ6 let you mix & match)

DQ7 is an interessing game in that it's plot is made up by several mini plots like the one where you save a town thanks to the help of a magic wolf and the inhabitants all turns into horrible furries afterward, but the pacing is awfull (it takes 30 minutes alone just to get to the first fight) and the job system completly broken and bound to frustate, lastly DQ9... it's allright barring the post-game content which is mostly designed to waste your time... it can't be accessed anymore through normal means anyway :heh

And almost every DQ is made up of vignettes - which you call mini-plots. IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, and IX especially. Not just VII.

in other DQ games it feels integrated better so that the stuff that happens kinda feel like it's part of the plot, in DQ7 you literaly warp to a random zone where random event happens
