Anyone here from Montreal?
« on: April 10, 2014, 10:05:22 PM »
Just booked a trip there for June. My girlfriend has never been to Canada and wanted to take a road trip, so I suggested there... since I've already been to Vancouver and Toronto (the latter a ton of times, used to live near there). I don't know too much about Montreal although I do remember a tiiiiiiiny bit of French. If any of you live there, or have been... recommend some cool shit to do!

Food:  Schwartz's Deli, for their smoked meat sandwiches.

Gibby's steakhouse.  Great steakhouse, and a very cool late-1800s feel to it.

Catch a Cirque show, time your trip for one of Montreal's festivals, definitely wander around Old Montreal....

I went a couple of weekends ago, but spent a bunch of time at a couple of baseball games and also just drinking.

But:
La Banquise for poutine, holy shit
St. Viateur for bagels

Sad I didn't get to Schwartz's though. And that I forgot Mojo lives there.

Blue Jays and Mets had two exhibition games right before the season started.

45k and 50k in attendance.

went there with the wife last year.

Cajole nailed it: St. Viateur for bagels, La Banquise for poutine. We also made it to Schwartz's, and while it was delicious, it wasn't life-changing or something you can't get in the states.

Au Pied de Cochon is EXTREMELY rich and delicious food. Great place for dinner.

Old Montreal is touristy and overrated. Plateau's where it's at.

GOOD.

"hmm, which is more delicious, something lovingly fired in a wood oven or something dropped in a vat and boiled I guess"

Yeah, even I have to admit it. Shit was amazing. I brought a bunch back with me.

I pretty much left it to my girlfriend to know where to go, so it worked out. A buddy went to Schwartz's and seemed to have the same impression as you.
