I smoked today for the first time this year while hiking and watching HBO shows but I've always despised the large gatherings people do because they like weed. It's like let's celebrate our counter-culture by doing the same thing at the same time at the same place.

Also it is so crazy how strong some strains can be. I unfortunately scored what I have right now at a party-fundraiser yesterday. Nearly everyone was under 21 and so I didn't think there would be anything crazy to when this fratty looking guy gave me a hit of something that he brought, I had like half a puff and then spent the next hour struggling to stay conscious.

Smoking weed by itself is not counter culture.

Weed is a social drug, like booze.

That's like saying,"I don't get why people have alcohol parties and get drunk together." The only difference here is there booze is legal. But the thing about weed is that everyone does it anyway so the stigma of gatherings isn't that much of a big deal.

Your question is silly. Do you NEED a reason to fire up the grill and drink some brews on July 4th? Newp, but it's tradition. Do you NEED a reason to go get drunk because it's Saint Patrick's Day? Nope. No one seriously celebrates Saint Patrick the Saint, they just use it as an excuse to get drunk - and that's fine by me! 420 in a legal area is now just a holiday to get high and celebrate legality, because not everyone has that luxury, and people certainly couldn't do what was in the pic I posted just two years ago in Washington or Colorado without getting arrested. What better reason to celebrate 420 and bask in the blessing of having legal weed?

The mass gathering of people using it and basically having a festival while cops keep a respectable distance on case of fights seems to me to be a "cultural event". I like the drug and I like using it with a few others and I won't deny that going to a 420 gathering at least once or twice is worth it.

But it isn't a big deal like some people make it out to be.

A guy I work with went to the Cannabis Cup in Denver over the weekend. He said the hotel he was staying in had complementary milk and cookies.
