Word on the interwebs suggests that the Big N is gearing up for some sort of hardware reveal at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo.

"We've heard rumors that Nintendo might be showing hardware at E3," IGN editor Jose Otero said on the latest episode of Nintendo Voice Chat.

"They're absolutely going to show new hardware this year," the outlet's co-founder, Peer Schneider added. "No doubt in my mind that something... 'Cause I've heard from multiple people now. I've heard from someone who used to be at Nintendo, I've heard it from somebody on the third-party front."

Nintendo will reveal new hardware at E3, a third-party publishing source has told VideoGamer.com.

Games compatible with the hardware will also be playable at the show, our source says, with the hardware believed to be linked to system specs leaked earlier in the year.

Those specs suggest that the hardware will be formed of two parts - a 'Fusion DS' and a 'Fusion Terminal' - and be a successor to the platform holder's struggling Wii U.

Our source's comments tally with those made by IGN earlier today who revealed that they had "heard rumours that Nintendo might be showing hardware at E3".

"They are absolutely going to show new hardware this year, there is no doubt in my mind..." said IGN's Peer Schneider. "I've heard it from multiple people now. I've heard it from someone who used to be at Nintendo, I've heard it from somebody on the third-party front."

The site then speculates that Nintendo could reveal a new peripheral or hardware revision rather than a new console.

Nintendo told VideoGamer.com that it does not comment on rumour or speculation when contacted about the story earlier today.

The platform holder is set to host its E3 digital event on Tuesday, June 10.

Well this is probably not going to happen because it would make too much sense.

Fusion DS has the power equivalent of the ps vita.

Nintendo Fusion is just another graphics card(with built in ram) and an optional hard drive.

Plugging the Fusion DS into the Nintendo Fusion will just give a higher resolution version of the same game on the Fusion DS.

But that would make sense.

I'd like to see Nintendo announce a new console more powerful than the PS4 and Xbox One just to see the meltdowns.

A new console isn't going to solve some of Nintendo's core problems, like making a decent modern console OS, or a PSN/Live quality network. Or making next gen quality games in general.

David Yarnton, GM for Nintendo of UK, has apparently further quashed rumors of an imminent Nintendo DS redesign. Mr. Yarton pushes the potential date for a redesign way out and past this year's E3 conference. According to DSAdvance, when Yarton was asked for some hard facts on the potential redesign, he replied,"That's been rumoured, I don't know for how long, but we haven't got any plans at the moment. The first, taking place on Tuesday (7 – 8:30 PM PT / 10 – 11:30 PM ET), will be dedicated to the new Super Smash Bros. games. Masahiro Sakurai will be in attendance, of course.

The one on Wednesday (6 – 7:30 PM PT / 9 – 10:30 PM ET) is certainly more mysterious. Nintendo plans to discuss some sort of new 3DS game. No one knows what that one is about at the moment!

Interesting to note that the Nintendo online presentation will be at 9 AM on the Tuesday.  Which makes me wonder new hardware reveal???

"Well, we're always experimenting with a lot of different kinds of new hardware," Miyamoto said. "Certainly, we've put a focus more recently on what we can do to better improve the transition from one hardware system to the next. Going from GameCube to Wii, we were able to mature a smooth transition from one to the next in terms of the development environment. But with Wii to Wii U, there were some hurdles there that we had to overcome in making that transition to the new hardware system."

"The question of whether or not we want to take a portable system and a home console system and decide if maybe, as the computer processing power improves, we could just simply say we'll stick with a portable and make it something that could also be a home console system is a question that ties directly into product strategy, and is something I can't really go into detail on," Miyamoto explained.

"But what I can say is that, for the time being, our focus is really on developing and building these environments that will allow us to have a smooth transition from one hardware system to the next going forward. Other than that, you can look forward to what comes next."
