The gameplay is tight but it seems pretty repetitive. Back and forth through the same areas, activating beacons, the same enemies in the same places every time (and respawning very quickly). I dunno

Seems more Peace Walker than Borderlands, except the areas are big

I would wait and see how many zones are in the final game before worrying about that. This first look is VERY limited.

I played a bit with bz just now. Had fun roaming around doing missions. Got to max level as well. One cool thing that happened was we stumbled upon a super high level Hallowed Knight and I managed to kill it with a well timed magic attack:

That was hilariously awesome Fistful. I took you there so you could get the ghost inside the area, I didn't think you'd straight up kill the mofo!!!  :lol :lol :lol I took the misses over there and she encountered an Ogre instead of the Knight and he said NONE SHALL PASS. I had a blast just killing stuff and leveling up my ranks.

I'm really enjoying this game more than I should be.

If anyone has a PS3 code they're not using, I'd be interested in it.

To some extent. I get maybe 1-3 new items every play session. It's actually quite nice. Fewer drops means that I'm always excited to find something new and there is less time spent looking through menus.

Had an invite waiting in my PS4 notifications yesterday, tried it out for a bit. Had a lot more fun than I was expecting. Battles are a bit slow (so far), but I kind of liked the pacing. I think it's a pretty game, sort of a colorful ruins motif. Met up with G, but had to leave right away and never got the chance to get back on. I'll be on again in about an hour if anyone wants to group up.

the competitive multiplayer is obtuse and kinda bad.  it's basically halo but you bring in your weapons and abilities so the balance and pace is off.  for example, if you throw a grenade and die, you down have another grenade when you respawn.  it's on the same cool down timer.  ammo doesn't refill, so if you died without ammo, you need to go find an ammo cache upon respawn.  and you need to bring weapon types (sniper rifles, shotguns) with you because you don't find weapons on the map.  I'm assuming this is what pvp modes in mmos are like.  or pvp in borderlands, if that exists.

Considering the dreadful reception the game received here and elsewhere I was expecting the worst. It turns out the game is really fun with a surprisingly coherent structure already in place. The expansive level design and "floaty" combat that's evocative of the Halo franchise is still there but the game does enough different to separate itself from Master Chief's adventures. Unfortunately I didn't get enough time to really delve into the game this weekend but I genuinely liked what I played and I think it shows a lot of promise.

I feel the same way.  The game feels like Halo and Mass Effect had a baby and it turned out better than I would have expected.

I found the alpha to be really mediocre. We'll see how the final game is.

I dunno- I only played Halo MP and like 1-3.  Started losing interest with Reach and hated 343's 4.  The Mass Effect similarities are just the hub world and game atmosphere more than game play.
