Bound by Flame (euro-jank action rpg)
« on: May 11, 2014, 04:02:54 PM »

I kinda like it. It's complete euro jank. The voice acting is crap. Not necessarily what they are saying  which I kinda find funny but in the uneven quality level of the voice actors. But unlike Mars War Logs which was at the level of this is unacceptable for me, this game I find a bit addictive and an improvement on many of the things that made War Logs flawed.

I'm only an hour in so maybe it takes a huge nose dive but so far I find the reviews a bit overly critical. The combat is difficult but honestly I kinda like it. It can feel unfair because you are fighting so many guys that outnumber you at times and they will be pinging you with arrows from distance while you are trying to fight a group of guys charging you. But so far every time, its just made me come up with a better strategy to pass the situation. I like that the combat isn't mindless. That I have to kind of be careful and have a strategy rather than wadding through boring button smashing fight after button mashing fight.

I mean at best its probably still a very average game. It probably gets monotonous during long stretches. But I have a feeling most reviewers are so use to cakewalk games that it makes them find reasons to punish games that aren't necessarily cakewalk. Probably not worth the 40 or 50 bucks its going for currently but for a sale price game I would think its worthwhile.

I'm definitely interested in playing this [since I actually kinda did like Mars: War Log despite how jank and dumb it was], but I'm not putting down more than $20 for it.

I would agree with that. I kinda feel sorry for them. The game sits in a weird spot. It probably cost them more than the typical xbla/psn/indie steam title does. But that's still the price it should be at.

I saw the quicklook of this and thought "Man I'd love to try this!" but then I realized I own The Witcher 2 and haven't even touched it, not sure what makes me think I'd play through this.

I'm so nervous about pushing the trigger on this one. Like I'm very interested in playing this one, but it could go so wrong.

the dialogue is hilarious :rofl

Yeah. Reviews are ripping it because the lead character sounds completely out of place in a Tolkien/Dragon Age age game but I think that's hilarious. Vinny is right in that he says the main character sounds like he should be in infamous. But I think that mish-mash is funny and unique. They knew what they were doing when they wrote him that way.

Yeah you don't write a character like that by accident. I'm pretty interested too but I dunno if i can overcome the jank. I'll probably pick it up around Steam Sale time.
