Played a few hours of this, kind of fun.  Doesn't play anything like the original Far Cry or Crysis which are the games I'm familiar with.  Now it's this rpg-lite assassin's creed except you move slow and drive vehicles everywhere but the combat is pretty satisfying and there are monkeys running around.  I was trying to find a hidden mask underwater and kept getting eaten by demon fish ;_;

Probably will stick with this, it's fairly pretty too even if it's just been-done-so-much-since-Crysis grass & trees.  But the little touches like the window blowing and sun shining through the leaves + nice character models, colors and smooth framerate makes it pretty.

Fuck you Ubisoft!!! I'm one of the Nvidia Promo Code via new GPU who cannot launch the game still. Been with customer support and nothing. Huge thread over at Ubisoft forums.

http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/953974-Uplay-still-says-quot-Preordered-quot-won-t-let-me-play

http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/954224-Pre-Loaded-last-night-Today-quot-Has-not-been-released-yet-quot

Had the same problem, but should work now.

Yeah, I understand it's pretty much just a reskin of FC3, but having not played FC3, this game is freaking amazing.  Played like 6 hours straight tonight and I've only really 100% explored out the first starting area and a little into the southern tip of the next area.  The world is HUGE and it's really fun to explore and MOUNTAIN CLIMB.  Elephants rock and there's just a ton to do and pretty much everything is fun outside of the races.

Game actually reminds me the most of Fallout 3/NV.  It's basically a giant wrpg with secrets locations and hidden stories all throughout as you level up and gain skills and do quests.

Plus mountain India is a nice location to relax and explore while shooting dudes in the face.  Also, between this and AC: Unity (which is good outside tech/bugs) & Valiant Hearts, despite Ubisoft rushing their products out and being total corporate dickbags, I'm pretty impressed by their actual game releases.  Even AC Rogue is supposed to be pretty good.

Oh woah, I was thinking how much I liked the music in the game when it's playing ambiently while you're exploring through fields or climbing a mountain and then I saw on the gaf thread that freaking CLIFF MARTINEZ did the soundtrack aka dude-who-always-works with Steven Soderbergh.  I'm a big fan of his soundtracks in Contagion and The Knick, so no wonder I like the ost for this so much.  Good pick for a composer.

This game is so much fun and surprisingly the cutscenes and dialogue are great.  Longinus guy biblical weapon dealer is awesome.

After 20 hours I'm still in South Kyrat enjoying the sites.  This might be my goty.  It's really clicking with me.

Attacking a fortress in coop was amazing. Flew in on a chopper with my buddy raining down RPG fire, did a few laps then crash landed into the center and kept doing death from above takedowns. Fuck yeah

Isn't FC3's setting just tropical beach island that's already been done in Far Cry 1/Crysis/Just Cause?  I like the setting here since it feels a little different with all the colored autumn/fall trees, heavy winds and snow.  Plus all the mystical India stuff with the various Hindu gods adds nice flavor.

Its not so much the general environment. Theres a definite difference between Far Cry 1 and Crysis's "tropical island" from Far Cry 3's.

I also think the co-op is a waste as well. I guess its fine to do, well... everything else, but why skimp out on campaign? It feels like such a waste. Nothing practically saves for the co-op partner, as well. They might as well just go play single player on their own.

I think it depends on how much you like the setting.  I mean, I love love love exploring these mountains and climbing them, finding hidden caves and death masks.  Part of my last night gaming was also spending like 45 mins figuring out how to get to the summit of the big mountain in the south.  My hands actually get pretty sweaty grappling around some of these heights.   Reading notes, getting enveloped in the lore of Kyrat; This adds a ton to the standard fun of grenading a group of bad guys to death while riding an elephant and knocking cars into rivers.

I also like the characters and dialogue.  There's one hunting quest where the guy is like "My wife was eaten by honey badgers!" and your character starts laughing and then is like "...wait, are you serious?"; the game is fun and beautiful and doesn't take itself serious.  On top of that it's a varied world with really excellent gunplay and the stealth is pretty enjoyable too when you're chaining stealth kills and all that.  Even the linear stealth missions can be fun like the first Hurk mission that takes you inside a glacier.

I mean it helps a lot that the game is really pretty and a location setting that's not used much.  Simply exploring the world and running into these shrines, temples, waterfalls is stunning and totally fulfills the "vacationing in a foreign land" needs in me.  It's a great adventure, and that's why I'm loving it.

Sorry dudes, I went and re-watched the FarCry 3 vids with Vaas and the boss fights (and their QTEs...) and the have more life and effort placed than the entirety of FarCry 4 so far. Even the main character (Jason) is more lively and his VA puts effort in than BOREDOM Ghale. None of the characters in this game can pronounce the following words correctly: "Kyrat" - "Ajay" - "Ghale"

All you do in this game is get yelled at by Anita and Sabal (everything you do is WRONG), while Troy Baker just blabs on and on sporadically. The achievements for each of the "boss" characters says - "Decided the fate of ___________"

Except you dont decide shit. Each mission plays out the same (or does it?) the only one it gave me a "choice" for was Noore, if that.

Sounds like your main problem with FC4 is the main story in the story missions.  I don't really agree (they've been fine for the first 12 or so I've done so far), but regardless I think this is a game where the main story doesn't really matter much.

About 50% through now, still enjoying it lots.  It's definitely repetitive now and I've accepted that being an ubisoft game the rest of the game will just be doing the same stuff again and again, but the main gameplay is a lot of fun and there's enough options to keep it fresh.  I've done outposts so many different ways at this point, from pure stealth, to animal lures, to run in riding a fucking elephant while spraying machine gun fire to infiltrating with a guns for hire dude as distraction to flying over one in the gyrocopter raining down grenades until the place is a sea of fire.  Good stuff.  Even the shitty City of Pain story mission (which is a pretty bad mission) which I just did recently wasn't enough to kill my enthusiasm in the game thanks to the checkpoints everywhere.

early in and enjoying it as far cry 3.5, and it really gets you back up to speed quickly.  I already maxed out my weapon inventory.

autodrive is a neat feature but at one point the car autodrove into sherpa and I lost karma (whatever karma is, I haven't figured it out yet).  at least looting his body resupplied my inventory.

I think this game more or less improves on what Far Cry 3 set up but then adds two big fuck yous with snakes and birds.  and the attack animation that begins several feet ahead of you.  some of these assholes spawn right outside of outposts and mess with you if you're trying to go undetected.

Snakes aren't a big deal since you can hear them.  Eagles are annoying but it's a once every 30 mins annoyance for a few seconds that doesn't really matter.  I'd be ok with the Eagle attack being removed though.

I do also like some unpredictibility in the game environment.  Makes it a lot more fun and organic.

I don't think the gameplay in Shangriala missions is good (flying is so bad), but boy is it pretty so I still enjoy them.

What I don't like is how the latest patch introduced hard crashes and infinite loading on fast travel bugs ><

I'm about 65% now with almost all south/mid Kyrat done.  Gonna head through that pass and into the north soon for endgame time.  The other thing I don't like is how by setting run and wingsuit on the same button sometimes I try to do a running jump, only to immediately winguit and crash into the opposite wall and instantly die.  Really f'img annoying sometimes.

Otherwise, game is relaxing touristing sweetness.

Game is awesome and while co-op is much better this is just another case of the team playing it safe. Which is a real shame since Far Cry 3 was an incredible game that came out of nowhere and really blew that franchise up from general dogshit to game of the year status. I'm still super happy with it though.

Oh well, at least I can itch my open-world completion urges with this game as I run around blowing the fuck out of the wildlife with demi.

Phew, 2 months and like 60+ hours later almost done.  95%, just gotta do the last 5 story mission, final outpost and its side missions and a couple of collectibles and...getting the Arena to max rank which I'm gonna skip (fine with finishing it 99.9%).

Game is great, but around 85-90% it finally got kind of repetitive.  The North on the east side is where the repetition sinks in since it's like the most annoying versions of each kind of mission.  Armored Car escorts can go die in a fire and Bomb Defusal is not really fun and there's too many.  Otherwise they did a good job making the rest pretty enjoyable.  Shangra-La was never good but was pretty and something different.  Outposts are great, but once you get the good sniper rifles all the stealth in the game becomes kind of pointless since you can just pick off enemies one by one from a distance.

And that's a bummer because the takedown stealth is pretty boss.  But when they start going nuts with the enemy count about 2/3rds through the game it basically forces you to rely on the sniper rifle for anything stealth.

Looking forward to finishing it up next time I play, after that I'm soooooooooooo good on Far Cry for a long time.  Not even gonna touch the Yeti DLC.  One day I'll play that (if it gets good reviews) and Blood Dragon and maybe FC3/5/2 but I had a great time with FC4 and I'm good for like 4 years of this formula.  FC4 was just too massive.  I'd be fine if the would map was about 2/3rds the size.

It seems like every fucking time I climb a tower I get attacked by birds. There's no way to prevent it and you don't even get the opportunity to kill them until after they attack, and even then it's extremely difficult to take them out (although they don't seem to attack you a second time--I just need my revenge). In general, it seems they notched up the animal annoyances since FC3.

I dunno, I see a lot of people having that complaint but if every 5-10 mins an animal bites me for 10 seconds of my time for the sake of immersion and an active wildlife in the game I'm fine with that.  I agree it's annoying when you get attacked out of nowhere sometimes, but it's not that often and they never do much damage so it doesn't really bother me.  Otoh you see a lot of cool wildlife interacting with stuff scenarios while playing.

Most organic worst youtube moment I had tonight was a guy riding a little mini-jeep is coming straight at me and I pull out of pistol and shoot him dead in the face right as he approaches and he falls off the jeep...which then keeps going and runs me over dead a second later  :'(

If you hear an eagle screech then you either dash to avoid or or immediately look up to gun it down. Other animals are immediately neutralized if you're in a vehicle since they don't really bother you. Once you get into the groove of the game they become a non-issue. Snakes are annoying, though.

I really didn't have an issue with anything besides the occasional eagle until I went trekking in the north endgame by foot and there's a fucking leopard QTE every 5-10 mins.  Wasn't a big deal but that's the only part I really noticed the aggressiveness.

Yeah snakes really aren't that bad but I just happen to have the worst luck with them. I've maybe run into them 10 times tops.

I'm always gunning around in the helicopter, ATV, or wing suit. I usually have a LMG for animals which tears them apart which is probably why I don't run into any annoyances, lol.

And done.  99.93%, the only thing missing is 1 signature weapon that requires grinding the Arena to max level and my OCD is not that OCD just to see 100%.

Really liked it.  Story could have been a little better told and there's one part of it I really don't like:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
That whichever person you pick from Amita or Sabal suddenly becomes EVIL in the last bunch of missions.
[close]

but

spoiler (click to show/hide)
At least it lets you let Pagan Min live, since he's pretty cool for a dictator bro.
[close]

Still, found the story very solid and satisfying and the world immensly satisfying to explore.  When I accidently stumbled across the:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
GOAT (Aka, Mask killer) lair and killed him it was awesome.  Would've been more creepy if he didn't show on your radar.
[close]

And the gameplay was just fantastic with lots and lots of unique organic situations.  Really fantastic gunplay and good stealth even if sniper rifle is too OP for the last 1/3rd.  I got the game for free so I bought the $30 Season Pass early on since I was liking it and the Hurk campaing was great, the Syringe mission was ok, and Durgesh sounds kind of crappy so I'm not gonna bother.  Hope the Yeti stuff is neat.

Definitely agree with Edge's 9/10.  Worth a play for anyone except Far Cry 3 players apparently :P
