forgive me for asking a stupid question, but why?

Amazon has a streaming service that they want to boost, but this still doesn't make any sense to me.  Will KFC buy Goodyear Tires tomorrow?

once again, don't make sense.

Amazon keeps chasing one money hole after another.  Ramping up spending on what is possibly the most saturated, competitive, and fragmented entertainment market doesn't make sense, especially for a company that already has an outsize/dependent role in retail sales of said market and isn't exactly hugely profitable to begin with.

but then again, Oculus and Facebook still doesn't make sense to me.  Good thing I'm not a hedge fund manager, I'd totally whiff that shit.

Shareholders are getting antsy because Amazon isn't producing record growth like it was a few quarters ago, they gotta make a big splash and pull down some of that dollar bill.

If I could get a 12-piece bucket while getting my tires rotated, that would be be perfect.

It does make sense in a "we want to be Apple and Google rolled into one" way. They have a music service, which is their iTunes. They have an app store. They have a streaming service, which is their Netflix. They didn't have a YouTube-type infrastructure, so they bought one.

Amazon seems to like owning the places people talk about / learn about their entertainment. IMDB, Goodreads, and now twitch
