The GFWLypse is cancelled for now.

 :piss PC Gaming  :piss2

Most of the bigs have or are about to get GFWL patched out of them (Batmen, Fallout 3, Bioshock 2, Dark Souls) but Capcom are still being cocklords about their games, so Resident Evil 5, Dead Rising 2, Dark Void, and Resident Evil ORC (lol, who cares?) are up in the air. Super Street Fighter IV AE is getting Steamified though (it looks like possibly Ultra will be a DLC update for SSF4AE on the PC).

Grand Theft Auto IV and Episodes from Liberty City are also MIA.

Bulletstorm got pulled from the Steam store a few months ago, so we can probably safely assume that Epic/EA has thrown it in the bushes.

Microsoft games are probably fucked. Their newly released stuff uses Steamworks anyway, but they've shown no inclination to patch any of their older games because they don't give a chipmunk's fart about PC gaming, so Fable III, Viva Pinata, Halo 2, and Gears of War are probably ded.

July 1st is when they throw the switch, I'm gonna try to get some Bulletstorm and Viva Pinata in before then.

The funny thing is I bought Viva Pinata from some online service a long time ago but I can't remember which one. So I can't figure out how to download it and play it.

It was 10 cents one time on GFWL Marketplace, so probably from there.

Here's a link for the GFWL client, btw: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/LIVE/PC/DownloadClient

This thread seems negative, especially since Microsoft says there's a flood of cross-platform titles coming:
Quote
Microsoft today unveiled its roadmap for PC and Xbox 360 cross-platform gaming, predicting that "the floodgates will open" for software playable across the two formats by 2008.

Speaking in a session at the Games Convention Developer Conference in Leipzig, Microsoft UK third-party account manager Steven Blackburn offered delegates an update on the firm's Xbox Live service. He also provided details of future plans for marketplace, Live Arcade and the Vista and 360-linking Live Anywhere service.

Blackburn confirmed that the first truly cross-platform playable title, Shadowrun, will launch in early 2007 - before revealing that Microsoft will incorporate a number of online-only gamer achievements to help deliver "first blood" in persuading gamers to try out the online functionality between PC and console.

Blackburn added that the first third-party cross-platform content would arrive in autumn 2007, by which time the application and certification process will have been finalised, with the "floodgates to open for all titles" in 2008.

Yeah, they really flung open those floodgates, let me tell ya. MS kicked GFWL in the ditch so fast, you'd think it was Windows Vista.

GTA4 is GfW, isn't it? It isn't GfWL? --Oh, wait, no it's BOTH. But at least the singleplayer will work, since it doesn't require a CD check, AFAIK. Tales of Liberty City will also work. So bonus: Mods won't be hindered by "Rockstar Social Club."

Really the biggest Wildcard is Capcom's titles. I'm waiting right here with them activated and saves to go for conversions to Steam achievements if/when it happens. If it doesn't happen in two years, I'm clearing the drive space, no harm done. I got what I wanted out of those titles besides Operation Raccoon City, which I knew was bad but couldn't stomach just HOW bad it was.

They haven't officially announced the shutting down yet, have they? Wouldn't be surprised if they've pushed it back.

I just want a patch for Age of Empires 3. I paid all of 99 cents for it, iirc. That's gotta buy a patch, right? Oh, and Fuel maybe. I barely touched that game because it likes to crash a lot.

One of my favorite games of the last generation, DiRT 2, is GFWL and it doesn't seem like it is getting patched out either.

GfWL was probably dead before it launched. It didn't seem like ANYONE knew how to get all their terms, conditions, paperwork, and code in order.

Well, shit, that's true for everything. Try playing these games after you're dead. I don't think it will have the same appeal.

In a slightly more serious-er vein, when I was a kid, CDs came out and we were told that -- unlike vinyl -- CDs mean you'd be able to repurchase your LPs and they'd last "FOREVER." Forever. :lol

Correct, there is no official confirmation of a shutdown date

But contrary to rumors, Microsoft insists that it is not shutting down Games For Windows Live on July 1, 2014.

“We are continuing to support the Games for Windows Live service,” Microsoft said in a statement to Game Informer. “As previously announced, as part of the retirement of Microsoft Points the Xbox.com PC marketplace was closed. Although customers are unable to purchase new games from the marketplace or receive title updates, they can continue to enjoy previously purchased content by downloading them through the Games for Windows Live client as usual. We remain committed to investing in PC gaming in the years ahead, and look forward to sharing more in the future.”

Well, AoE Online has been pretty clear that they're shutting down, so I'm still working to get through a handful of Achievements there before it does.

That's AoE though. The marketplace has been shutdown but games like Dark Souls/et. al, are still being sold on Steam/elsewhere and are able to use the matchmaking services X-box Live uses. So it isn't out of the realm they can "postpone" shutting down the PC access to X-box Live stuff, but it'd be nice of them to just go "yeah, no" and pull the rug from devs that are dragging their feet over it.

Thanks. This turned out to be the case and its there. Although funny enough I know I own Shadowrun also on this service but it isn't listed under my full games.
