Wasn't Blue Dragon like the highest selling 360 game in Japan? (at least for a long time after its release). Of course that's not saying much, but I'm not sure if Microsoft (which generally has a nearly unlimited stomach/patience for losing money as long as they still consider something to be strategically important) could really regard it as "his" bomb.

I had a mate who worked for MS Japan while Sakaguchi was still working with them and from the stories I've heard, it's not terribly surprising they didn't go back to him for a 3rd time.  I think LO did pretty decently worldwide, but the man was not an easy one to work with and had very expensive tastes.

some new details and pic have been surfaced, apparently gooch says that the more download the game gets, the more content he will add up to the point where he will bring the game to consoles if it gets to 2 million download (where i guess considering that this is a F2P mobile RPG "on console" mean, cheap PSN port)

he also has talked about the game on PAX a while ago along with some artwork, so maybe there is a chance for an english version

you seems to move your unit around by dragging them like in pad and when you align them in certain pattern they attack the unit they have surrounded, i'll be honest, the idea of playing a game that's like PAD but it's not PAD and it has all of the people involved back from when square-enix was cool make me moist

it seems to use the usual PAD model, you have a premium currency that can be used to

1) recharge the timer
2) continue if you get killed
3) pull a gacha (a capsule toy machine) that spits out character of different rarity, with rarer character being usualy more stronger and desiderable

most people usualy recoil in horror at the idea of the gatcha since you are basicaly gambling real money for in-game power but most game of this sort are usualy kind enough to give you enough premium currency for free to make several gacha pulls and have a decent start at least, PAD in particular flood you with free premium currency, we can only hope this one follows suit

Report: it's pretty good so far.  Lots of stuff borrowed from PAD, but with a very fresh spin to the combat.

i found a way to pass for canadian on the play store and downloaded it, mmm..... it's definitely better than your average mobile game both on the production value front and actual game mechanic front, bosses have a precise pattern of attack and if you know what you are doing,you can actualy dodge attack which is really cool, but somehow it doesn't catch me ablaze like pad did the first time

i guess one of the reason is because the rpg element aren't really noticeable, there is a rock/paper/scissor in play but otherwise nothing much going on, looking at the menu i can see stuff my character are supposed to get but it's taking a looooooooooooooooooong time to get there

EDIT: the metal slime in this game actualy run away from you and you have to tacticaly flank them so that they don't reach the screen boarder, that's hilarious and really show the fuck given

i've gotten to chapter 7, there is a surprising amount of text in this game and it's weird playing a mobile game that tries having a plot, the translation is quite well done, it almost feels like playing an alexander o' smith game... that said the plot is pretty dumb, a bunch of people decide to find god for some reason and as such starts traveling around, mostly underground

so far the biggest problem with this game it's that it has just been easy, i found a level up stage and all of my character jumped to level 20 even though the recomended level for each stage so far has been below 17, also each time you attack you have to see the character artwork flashing through in the background which also slow things down but luckily there is a fast-forward button that make this more acceptable at least... after finishing chapter 4 i got a lizard guy who drops special capsule that let him resist dark elemental damage and shoots thunder so ehy at least the game feels a little more like a proper rpg! also to unlock new jobs you have to gather a lot of material from special stages so there is a grinding element involved into getting more skills

there is a stamina bar and it becomes bigger each time you clear a chapter, it takes 5 minute to recharge 1 stamina which is better than the usual 10 minutes these games use, but the cost to enter a stage seems to increase the further i go in which kinda makes me worried, current chapter requires 8 stamina per stage

each stage has it's own enemies which at least helps making the game more interessing and also makes the game feel more professional, the monsters are quite varied and can even be recruited in your party if you are lucky, so far i got a wyvern, a robotic spider and most important of all, a spiked ostrich that also shoots thunder, sadly i still haven't seen any wybunnies!

gotten as far as chapter 12 and i'm really really impressed, one of the bosses was a sphynx that made it so that it reduced the movement time of human unit to like 1 second which made attacking with human really hard, so i had to use monster against him, if you let the boss live at low health he goes back in the center, does a countdown and then reset the battle to the first turn like nothing happened! but wait! if you hit him with thunder he short circuits and lose a turn

that's shit i expect in a proper rpg, not a mobile game, every boss fight so far had a different gimmick to exploit or watch out for

the F2P model is starting to getting in my way of enjoying this game, the game is divided in 30 chapter but starting from chapter 16 there is a HUGE difficulty spike and suddenly your default unit are worth a shit, each unit in this game has 4 skills but the unit that you can buy with premium currency can switch between 3 different jobs and use up to 8 skills instead (4 skills from a job of their choice + any 4 skills from the remaining 8 from the jobs they aren't using) so there is already a difference that makes up premium unit straight better, but then you add the fact that the default unit have incredibly shitty stat too and now i'm in a situation where i'm screwed because my healer doesn't heal enough and dies as soon as something look at her in the wrong way... so now my best bet to proceed with the game is either getting lucky for a better healer or hope monster stop picking on the one i'm using
