Just started the PS3 version today ( I know late to it) but it doesn't seem like that huge of an upgrade. Maybe less crushed blacks (or maybe that's my TV/monitor?) and a slightly darker/deeper color scheme than the PS3 version.

Console games are expensive and time consuming to make + less video games being made in the retail space = environment where re-releasing last year's game at $60 again makes sense

The game is cheaper than most PS4 titles in Europe and I assume it will be $50 in the US as well. If they include all the DLC then I think it's a good alternative to re-releasing a GOTY version on the original platform.

The upgraded models, IQ, 1080p and 60fps should be a good upgrade over the PS3 version, imo. You'll come across some sections that, while beautifully lit, will strain and bog down your PS3 to painful levels. When I was playing this I was literally thinking "I wish this was on PC" throughout, because it fully exposed how aging the machine was more than any console game I've recently tried.

there are some crude ps3 to ps4 comparisons out there to show increased vegetation, world detail, traffic, etc.  but the gist is that it's more than bumping up the resolution and frame rate.

I played only 3 hours of Last of Us and dropped it hot. Game's incredibly well made but the gameplay, I thought, was incredibly boring.

Should I just man up and finish my PS3 save or double dip and get the PS4 version? Should I even bother playing it regardless?

If you didn't like the gameplay at that point, I'm not sure what would change in this port. I don't think the gameplay changes much or hits this amazing part where everything comes together. What you get from the begining is kind of the whole game. The rest of the game is just more unique situations using the tools given to you.
