Yet another HDTV thread
« on: July 10, 2014, 11:37:05 PM »
YO, I NEED A NEW HDTV.

I guess I could go online and look for reviews and such but you guys seem like fine chaps with a great eye for quality :-*. Any recommendations on what to get?

My old HDTV was a 46" Panasonic VIERA from 2009 which had pretty great black level and did a fine job playing games (except for PaRappa the Rapper). I'm looking for anything hovering around that size and under $1200 that at least matches my old TVs quality. THANKS, BORE!

I also have a 46" Panasonic VIERA from 2009. If it broke I would either replace it with a 55" Panasonic plasma (Viera TX-P55ST60Y) or a 55" Samsung LED (UE55F8005). My living room is very sunny during the summer months and then plasma isn't the best technology. 4K and bent TVs are more expensive than I'm willing pay right now.

been looking at replacing my 2007 LCD set myself.  Its 2014, I figure I ought to get at least 1080P before 4K becomes standard.

If you play videogames only Sony KDL W 7,8,9 series will do.

Lowest ms response speed in the industry and good blacks.

Only downer imho is the patchy wifi it has built in.

What happened to the old one?

It's still great! I've taken extremely good care of it but now it's the living room TV and I've got nothing for my "office."

I've got all my game consoles boxed up and because I can't hook them up to anything! :'(

Does it have to be something that large?  Might want to look into getting a good monitor instead.

Check for deals n' shit.  I got a great 42" 120Hz Panasonic IPS panel HDTV in 2011 for $500 at Amazon.

I'll be doing both. Once I pick up an HDTV for my consoles and buy furniture for the "office" I'll be building a monster gaming rig and picking up a good monitor with that. Expect another thread from me in a few weeks asking about what parts I should buy, lol.

Costco has a Samsung 60" plasma for less than $800. I'm thinking of buying that but I'll have to check to see if LCD/LED tech has caught up with the picture glory of a plasma.

What I learned:

- Plasmas are dead which is a shame since they continue to be superior to LCDs.
- When you buy a Samsung TV you play the Samsung lottery on getting a decent panel.
- 4K is a waste of everybody's money but goddamn they look great.
- LEDs have really shitty refresh rate and you should go for, bare minimum, 240hz if it's used for gaming.
- 3DTVs are dead, even if the TV you buy supports 3D and comes with two pairs of glasses the packaging will not mention that AT ALL.
