I bought a 360 and I guess I'll buy a Halo. Basically I've played Halo and Halo 2. But there are four other Halos to choose from and I don't think I really need that much Halo.

Tell me which one to buy.

halo 4 is like call of duty if it was halo. i like it but everyone else seems to hate it. well, everyone except all the people who still play it daily.

Skip reach

Halo odst is short and good

Halo 4 is ok

Get halo 3

halo odst is best campaign. halo 3 is best multi, solid campaign. pass on the other two.

UI stuff. A lot of glowy dog ear corners

see the triangle cut out on the top right? VERY IMPORTANT and should be utterly trivial but was in fact hilariously complicated to implement everywhere because reasons I've purged from my brain already

reach had great playlists with insane variety, but god damn did the amount of damage you could do with a single clip suck ass. made every firefight feel like a chore because it always ended with who could slap the other guy first to get the kill.

Reach and Halo 4 are the ones you want. Everything else, while decent, you can avoid. Even 343 top-brass agrees, lol. Aside from Franchise not a lot of fans of ODST over there either.

The real answer is of course the Halo Collection!

Halo 1 Campaign - Best

Halo 2 MP - Best
Halo 2 Campaign/Arbiter - Awesome
Halo 2 Campaign/Chief - Serviceable

Halo 3 MP - Great
Halo 3 Campaign - Great

Halo Reach Campaign - Best

Halo 4 MP - Terrible

Halo 3 is like what, $2 these days. Honestly starting there is probably the best choice since that's the most-Halo out of all the games.

While I like ODST, if you're strapped for cash/time I'd jump to Reach next and then if you still want more Halo go to 4.
