Battlecry, ESO, and Doom 4 from Bethesda. Usually a few other, smaller, developers have some games scattered around the convention hall.

Going into the Doom presentation, I was wondering what they would need to show in order to convince me they had any idea what they were doing. Well, after seeing the demo, I can safely say that it does appear they know exactly what they are doing and exactly what they are doing is :gladbron

I've been reading the gaf thread, but if you don't mind what exactly is it that won you over? Is it just their overall commitment to making this game work this time? Do you think that ID is in a better place that they can take their time and really get this right? As much as I love their work the last 10 years seems to have been really hard on them. It'd be really nice to see this be a success for them. I only wish the guys that wrote Wolfenstein were on the case with Dooms origin story. Those guys did a fantastic job revising that IP in a new way and unexpected way.

Doom was shown? Any video online?

It was [about 10-15 minutes of on-stage gameplay] and no, there isn't. They stopped the live stream before the Doom segment and had everyone put away their phones and cameras.

I've been reading the gaf thread, but if you don't mind what exactly is it that won you over? Is it just their overall commitment to making this game work this time? Do you think that ID is in a better place that they can take their time and really get this right?

-Cool setting, industrial hallways that funnel you along but lots of wide vistas and huge scale to make it seem bigger and more open than it is
-Fast-paced combat, looked fluid and fun
-Brutal close-combat kills
-Chainsaw, double barrel shotgun making a return
-Enemy designs look way better than Doom 3
-Dark and moody, but you can still see what's going on

It really feels like they're working off a cohesive, interesting vision.

Can't be as bad as RE5. For one, no forced (online) co-op, yeah? For the other, said Manson/Mikami doing atmosphere instead of LOL ACTION.

But then again, he did equal parts of LOL ACTION and atmosphere in RE4...  :-\

No, I mean that this is basically more of a successor to Resident Evil 4 than Resident Evil 5 was.

Not bad at all, actually. Some big environments, lots of detail, good animation and detail on the enemies. You could tell it was still a little rough around the edges, though, with some visible aliasing and limited shadows, but it definitely was very pleasing on the eyes.

Tiago Sousa, a longtime Crytek employee who served as the R&D Principal Graphics Engineer in the company's Frankfurt studio, has announced that he's left the company to become the Lead Rendering Programmer at Doom developer id Software.

So, there's that.
