Then you're a thirty-something guy and look around your house and realize you have a bunch of plastic shit that means nothing to you. Some dudes fool themselves by saving it for their kids, but most just stash it or sell it.
I've saved some stuff from when I was younger in my parents basement. Gave the Star Wars stuff to my cousins young kid recently, he's overly obsessed with Star Wars, as is his father.

I think there's some Power Rangers stuff that has some decent ebay prices left, but I'm waiting for when I can just ship it to Valve and Gabe gives me Steam credit.

In other words, I'm lazy.

There's a guy in the Alabama Abortion thread I made now talking about things like the "estate of the fetus." Some replies are more blunt than others: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=132761696&postcount=138

And I think it's one of The Walrus' favorite posters? TheChocolateWar.

Yeah I saw that. Post-abortion punishment panels. I can't even.

I love his quasi-lawyer speak peppered with "unborn fetus."

What would this even entail? Would the fetus's family be able to collect damages?  :heh

Shove it in cash up into the uterus for the next fetus.

Wouldn't each individual semen need its own lawyer?

Don't know what's sadder.
A grown guy who goes out and collects those things or an equally grown guy who cares that people go out and collect those things.

I like the "fuck everyone" tone here.  That's a sentiment I can get behind.

Dude's got a girlfriend of 13 years.  The numbers don't lie!

He and Extollere confirm that the more lewd figures you have, the easier it'll be to find a long-lasting relationship!  Everyone's been doing it wrong all these years!

Better to just hate on everyone than rally behind a single group to hate on.  Go big or go home.

Also, I work in retail.  That shit will fuck up your world view.

Well yeah, that's kind of what I actually do.  I say I'm a misanthrope, but that's not actually true.

Still, I've come to respect the fact there's going to be people I don't get along with, and that's okay.  Doesn't mean I'd actively go out of my way to hate on them or deny their right to exist.

But seriously, fuck retail.

It's a better movie. Alien beats it in cinematography, and that's about it.

Alien v Aliens is a stupid argument because it's like picking which nut* you want to suck first: the left or the right. Doesn't matter which because you're going to have fun no matter what you pick.

Meh. We all got our quirks.
That whole thread is just a mess (as are all gaf threads lately).
It sorta reminds me when I saw these kids in football jerseys pushing and picking on a kid because he was wearing a star trek shirt when I was picking up my kids.
I interjected telling them to stop picking on the kid. One of the punks said that he was just picking on him because he was a geek. I said that a filthy Raiders fan had no place to comment on anyone's taste and at least the Star Trek team wins every once in a while.
I don't really remember what the kid said then I just remember asking him if his boyfriend knew he had stolen his jersey.

Long and short of it, I don't really find anything wrong with people's obsessions as everyone has them. I've seen a girl tell me that she would never date a gamer because they're weird and creepy. But at the same time she proudly displayed her Sex in the City collection. So....

Honestly even though it's funny to be like "LOLZ teh salt!" If someone was shallow enough to exclude people from their lives because they had different hobbies and such, I probably wouldn't want them in my life either. Like I said, I stopped caring about what hobbies other people have long ago, I'm not in high school.

There's nothing wrong with a little shame sometimes. When it comes to overdoing your hobby or interests there comes a point when it's too much. With moe that line pretty much starts at liking it period and gets worse as you acquire tangible crap.

Pretty much.

Many people fail to realize, it's ok to like nerdy shit...just don't be a complete special fellow (I hate this word but it fits) about it.

Buying and displaying figures/figurines is crossing that line to me. Check yourselves  :gurl

At some point people become their hobby in the worst way regardless of what it is. When it comes to anime, moe and gaming it's 0-60 pretty quick. You can do you but don't be surprised when your social crew is practically non-existent and or your romantic life is kind of in the shitter.

It's 0-60 quicker with forums.  People that post on those frequently are the real bottom of the barrel.

Of course there are those levels of social aptitude.
But if someone's happy with their life (and it's not like every inch of their room is dedicated to one thing), eh, don't care.
And yeah, I get ya. I hate it when people are like "Waah! I don't have a girlfriend!" when they're a neckbearded blob. I HATE that.  My wife and I talk about this kind of "bu..bu..but people should love me as I am!" crap all the time. Well yes, but relationships are work. You gotta work to become someone you'd want to date. (I could go on and on about this).
But if they're fine as they are or at least surround themselves with people that understand. It's their choice.

last night after i took him to dinner my friend and i stopped by this local game shop (not vidya but board games and card games like D&D and Magic) and I was like,"hi guys!!!" when i walked in as they sat unassuming in a giant circle playing Magic.

Didn't get a reply back.

SMH.

I went to the cash register and I wanted to ask the cashier a question and I stood there for a full minute before he acknowledged me.

Meh, I don't see the problem with having something like a nerd cave for that stuff unless it's extremely inappropriate(moe sex figurines). I know and like a bunch of stuff a little too much, but I have the self awareness not to turn it into my entire identity or have that as my only topic of conversation.

Have your quirks and weird stuff, but keep em yours unless you know someone with a shared interest. Just don't try to convert others or try to prove yourself through them to people who don't care about them. I'm a giganticly pathetic nerdlinger, but I won't be telling some girl I met at a bar about my love for Capcom fighters and what my favored technique of button mashing is.

Yeah, pushing stuff on people that aren't interested is worse than having "questionable" hobbies.

You really want to make one of them your entire identity, go for it.  Just find a few friends or SO that's into it as well (unless you're a total loner introvert, in which case there's no issue).  Nobody's business if you're happy and can provide for yourself and/or others.
