Yeah, it is south of Australia, but it's even more to the east. New Zealand should be sitting somewhere underneath the cluster of Fiji, New Caledonia, etc., not grinding Australia. The creator more than likely had a map of the world on-hand when putting the image together and so I doubt he actually did confuse the two, but it certainly looks like he did.
