Just to be clear here, your previous perma ban was requested. This latest one? I can't undo it. I say this not to cover my ass or anything with Bore regulars but just to clarify that if you're a lurker in this thread who just got banned, I'm not the person to contact to get it undone.

Well, any of us can theoretically do it. It's just the kind of thing that's going to get noticed. As owner of the forum, EviLore can certainly overturn other people's bans and not face any ramifications for it if he so desires, but for the rest it's really something that's not supposed to be overturned except by either: A.) the person who did it, or B.) by a pseudo-committee (i.e. an informal conversation in the mod forum or IRC where there's a consensus among participants). Otherwise, it's not really kosher if I for instance go "you know, that Kabouter really doesn't know what he's doing and that ban was a mistake, I'm undoing that ban." It's very likely going to be the case that someone will notice that so and so was supposed to be banned, and an admin can check the log to see who unbanned them. And since it's nobody's place to override other people's bans, the likely outcome would most likely just be: the person gets banned anyway, and I'm de-modded (and possibly banned as well) for "going rogue" so to speak.

End boring protocol conversation.

Yeah the root of my apathy towards the discussion, aside from depression and not caring about anything, is that almost none of these people really give a shit about this issue outside of the NeoGAF/twitter/etc bubble. They're not personally affected, and they're not putting in any actual work outside of the bubble that could cause meaningful change, they're just getting in on that group jerk sesh and trying to score some cred. Basically modern Amirox.

Don't get me wrong, there probably is nothing meaningful that these people could do, but I can't help but find their true motives suspect whether they're conscious of them or not.

^ All of them are complete bullshit. "Accurate" or not. I seriously doubt there's anything "deeper" beyond TOR and other such "encrypted internet" services and it's hilarious to categorize sites like 4chan as "more hardcore/deeper web" than stuff like Reddit. There's a lot of cross over between 4chan and Reddit despite what 4chan would protest to. Yes, Reddit has more users but that's mostly because of cross-over from Facebook. But that's getting off topic: The "deepweb" infographics are mostly bullshit because it's:

4chan/Reddit/Facebook/Gmail/etc. everyday services and sites that everyone and their mother uses that doesn't need encrypted/"TOR.onion" URLs to access = "normal/above-web"
Anything ".onion"/TOR and other such services that are encrypted = "under/'deep'web."

And I'd probably say "deepweb" is being a bit disingenuous since a few encrypted sites probably are from rebel government resistances/good intentions when stuff like Facebook/etc is shut down from governments trying to silence the people while a lot of other sites on TOR are stuff like "silk road" level and other "illegal" shit.

No, I haven't used TOR because I don't need to go looking for encrypted sites. But reading about how it works I seriously SERIOUSLY doubt there's even further encryption/"layers" to the web. Given the way it's supposed to work, it shouldn't have people tracking where you connect unless you're stupid like the Silk Road owner having his stuff in plaintext IIRC to get busted.

Actually, if I'm reading this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tor_(anonymity_network)) right TOR's "exit" node will be in "plain sight" which means in theory (IANANetworkEngineer) they could possibly track you down but that's only if they found the TOR-network hops from you to the exit, which is the hardpart.

The Cartogram on that article is also interesting. I didn't think Italy, France, and Spain would be massive TOR users, I wonder what for.
