My problem with Devolution and the BCT is the endless outrage circle jerk and validation. I use the internet to talk to friends, troll, have fun, discuss my interests, watch porn, learn things, read, etc. What I don't use the internet for is to not only get outraged over shit, but also to wallow in misery. Every now and then I make a long post about some outrage that's worth discussing - say, an unarmed kid getting shot by a police officer. What I don't find interesting or worthy of ENDLESS discussion is what 20something year old white males on a videogame forum have to say about shit. It serves no purpose and isn't constructive. Worse yet, it's not even just "hey, point at the dumbass!" antics, which at least can be entertaining. Instead it's posters vicariously living through an internet forum and patting each other on the back for being outraged at stupid shit.

Get a fucking life. This thread is busy 24/7, even on weekends, revolving around laughing at stupid shit someone said on GAF. And Devolution is the ringleader. Then you have BCT which revolves around similar griefing, mixed with anime and fried chicken talk. Needless to say, I rarely post there.

This boils down to the internet's outrage problem. Everyone has a gripe now, and demands everyone else acknowledge it. I'm supposed to feel bad that overweight people have to deal with people telling them they should lose some weight/get healthy. I'm supposed to be outraged when a guy says he treats women equally or (worse yet) holds doors open for them. I'm supposed to be outraged when white people poke fun at "black culture" which now apparently means twerking and other dumb shit.

(Image removed from quote.)

Grow some fucking balls and get a life. There are way too many important things going on in real life for me to waste my time giving a shit what an ignorant demographic of men have to say anonymously online.

Epic endorphin release.

Every morning I wake up with a limited amount of fucks to give. If I hand out all my fucks like candy, before even drinking my morning coffee, over dumb shit said on the internet I'll be emotionally exhausted and out of fucks when real life shit hits the fan. Uh uh. No bruh. Fuck that.

Pretty cool how Am_I_Anonymous went from "devo shouldn't talk about things she doesn't live" to "I've been to Germany, I now know everything about the people and their beliefs."

When you have a bullshit position it's helpful to cover your ass by caching it in a specious one and gamble on no one calling you out on your bullshit.

On a related note, and to indulge my penchant for LARPing John the Savage, while I understand that eventually one has to take sides in order to remain human, if your side is "Keep my internet chill," and I come back to the Plains of Chillbraham 12+ hours later to chillisans being decidedly unchill still, the only logical conclusion is that the appeal to chill was never genuine in the first place.

To be truthful, that entire PD post feels like one giant snipe towards Devo. I haven't read the BCT thread Taylor Swift incident stuff but I highly doubt what Devo did was that bad that it has garnered such a reaction.

I rarely browse the OT, never browsed the BCT, don't follow what Devo is up to on GAF, and still thought he made a good argument when taken at face value.

I only dapped it for the fuckery. PD averaging 21 ppd (posts per day) and a HoF 563000 career all time posts on GAF out here telling people to get a life. That's classic, undeniable fuckkery.

I know you're ribbing. But honestly, we live in a time when being glued to a screen big or small has become the norm. There was a time when I called people out over their daily posts, but with billions of tweets being posted every day I can't anymore in good faith. Everyone is wasting time on the internet these days, so "getting a life" in this context obviously doesn't necessarily mean get off your phone, just dob't lose your shit at the drop of a hat. Obvious but necessary #holeup.

Maybe it's my whiteness talking, but I'm a bit confused about the latest Devo controversy. I followed the rabbit trail back to the BCT and it all seems so mild. Not just mild by Devo standards, but just mild in general.

She objected to some Taylor Swift joke, compared it to her own experience and it just happened in the BCT, a thread she's been posting in for years. This episode might have been one of the rare moments Devo wasn't trolling.

I frankly expected more drama. She left quickly too, with a minimum of fuss.

Let's look at the kinds of internet people involved:
a) People looking to get offended
b) People looking to offend
c) Eternal internet victims
d) People who make everything about themselves
e) People who dont give a fuck
f) People who try and egg on shenanigans for entertainment
g) Oscar the Grouch
h) Nintendo fans

It's never going to end well. GAF is a  powderkeg waiting to explode into a 50 fedora mega nuclear oppression olympics bomb every time someone posts even the most slight misconstrue-able post. It's an awful place to post at, but goddamit if it isnt entertaining as an observer

I’m writing this sitting on a bench outside the church my choir sings at. I’m well over half an hour early and my housemates are rushing here with all haste to ensure I won’t starve (going eight hungry hours between lunch and dinner while standing and singing for the final three of them is not cool) and to ensure I have my music for rehearsal.

Why?

My bus from work just didn’t show up. I was standing in a bog of stale frustration, waiting for half an hour, watching the number of minutes till my transfer bus would be gone tick down one by one. I was ready to scream that that bus had darn well better have exploded to excuse that as all hope of coming home for dinner ticked away.

But as I stepped off the next bus, I had a look around. The snow had just melted and things were turning green. The world was beautiful. I started to wonder how I could get so mad over something so stupid and out of anybody’s control, the bus driver included. Buddy, you can’t change that the bus was a no show, but the singing birds and the newly naked grass… they’re beautiful. Enjoy them.

I feel like we lose sight of that when we get into routines. Routines get us through the things we have to do, but once they cut us off from the very universe we’re a part of, what good are they? Even if there’s dirty snow everywhere, you’re freezing your face off and there’s no bus in sight, there’s still beauty there. Take a look at that dirty snow. Forget that it’s dirty snow – just look at those crystals; how they formed and melted, refroze and were pelted by a burst of rain. They might be a mountain range or an undulating plain of volcanic ooze.

Maybe this philosophy doesn’t apply to everything; you can’t always separate the content from the form (sure, that glacier is melting alarmingly fast, threatening to wipe your island village, culture and language of 600 remaining speakers out of existence, but isn’t that melting glacier pretty?), and sometimes over-adherence to it can just come off as loopy or obnoxious, but it helps me keep things in perspective. A no-show bus completely throwing your schedule out of whack is annoying, but it isn’t the end of the world. Which is beautiful. So chill out.

The last part is a joke, but ask a Somalian kid struggling to support their family if they want to go to school. The idea that not having to bare the responsibility of education is a dream come true for kids is really more the product of either middle-class privilege or working-poor kids whose schools are generally ill-equipped anyway.

But kids aren't stupid. They can see that education = freedom.

I'm not a fan of the Star Wars prequels at all. I think they're cynical and stupid. But George Lucas's poor direction of Jake Lloyd shouldn't be conflated with a false equivalency of the character with "a normal kid."

I think a lot of it stems from the clear joy that he takes in being in the pod races. Waddo clearly doesn't have to do that much convincing. But it should also be noted that the pod races - much like how gladiators were groomed in the arena - offer Anakin his only possibility for some modicum of social independence, much like being able to dig through the scrap yards and make robots indicates his explicit self-motivation in learning as much as he can when Waddo isn't watching. It's where he gets to have interpersonal rivalries and spit back in the face of the culture that enslaved him.

That's what I don't like about the film, that it isn't a subversive Ben-Hur story. Anakin's subjective experience - regardless of whether or not we see something absurd like flagrant whippings and lynching - would have been so much more interesting to me than Lucas's cold distance from the proceedings which necessarily implicates Qui-Gon, and Obi-Wan, and Padme, and Jar-Jar from the beginning, characters who play these integral thematic roles but whose experiencing of the events really isn't very important until they leave Tatooine.

And I'm not saying I would have wanted a retread of Star Wars. Anakin is not the same character as Luke. The latter is a feckless miscreant who despises the Empire but has no ambition to attack it until Obi-Wan basically abducts him. Anakin, on the other hand, is a fucking slave. Before Qui-Gon, he has had virtually no possibility of freedom. Before they arrived, though he may have dreamed it would one day happen, that the Jedi would live up to their folk mythology, he was probably convinced that his fate was to win his own freedom or die in the arena. He idolizes the Republic, because it is democracy which seems to be this glorious dream which is forever out of reach. It want to see his journey of coming to realize the duplicity and ineffectiveness of the Republic, not to implicit condescension to this experience that Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan carry with them. I don't find it funny, I find it racist.

Do you live in Germany? If you do you shouldn't say that cause you would know better. We German people get kicked around by immigrants every day, get robbed by Bohemian people, get spit on by other immigrants, children get mobbed in school and hit by those people. They often speak only their language and don't want to learn our language. We even build many mosques for them and they don't care about our believes. Our country has too many people and because of that the rent gets higher and higher and those people get a special certificate so that they don't have to pay as much for a bigger house than most of us working people.

If I go into a bus there are more immigrants than German people, these people stare at you and insult you in their language if you even look at them and also rob you if it's late night. I also have a few immigrant friends and they learned German, went to German schools and are integrated in this country, but even these people say that they are ashamed of many of their fellow men.

Here we go again  :lol

This thread is basically another random talk thread where the "subjects" are brought up via GAF/Coli/BodyBuilding/SA links. And in the case of GAF since we all have roots there so we know the ninfegs and cool dudes and so on, so gossiping about them just comes more naturally.

I mean it was less than a week ago that this thread went on another Anime binge for a few pages while there was maybe like two GAF links throughout.
