It's a harmless game with tna. It has no greater aspirations beyond being a fun game. Bayonet ta is supposed to be sexy and alluring. At least she's no coming off like some super pandery waifs girl fetish character. She has actual agency.

Is it sexist? Sure. Not misygonist though. Is it creepy. I guess if the concept of sexy women being played up rustles you for some reason.

It's a sily game. There are much bigger things to argue about in regards to the depiction of women. Getting mad at this game is like getting man at those Tomb Raider movies.

I get how the game is not meant to be deep, how it's intentionally campy, silly, and over-the-top.

But you have to be incredibly dishonest to claim when the "sexy woman concept" goes from this:

... it doesn't warrant pausing and having a discussion, unless our jimmies are hypersensitive.

I can kind of see the argument if taking into account the context of the era, but only if we flip it and acknowledge that both are considered a sex icon by some/many.  I'm seeing some of the same hyperbolic reactions to Lara Croft all those years ago as I am for Bayonetta.  It's just people have gotten less prudish over the years hilariously.

In 10 years, we'll probably have some full-on naked woman protagonist fellating guns and sword hilts.  People will be arguing that she represents 'female empowerment' rather than sexualization when that happens too.

With how the internet is these days, you just know someone is going to make a game based off that comic.

Thats not what I said. I said she's not a pandery waifu. Meaning she's not a character soley to have a "personality" made in service of a male and illicit a specific emotion that is supposed to be subjected by the male audience. She is her own character with her own agency. If men fantasy about her it's sure not in the dominating/servitude way these waifu characters are made for in other Japanese things.

But sure jump down my throat.

And the Bride was a fetish for Tarantino. Nowhere did I say it was some progrsivse strong character. What I'm saying is I'll take this over the actual female characters that come from a place worse then "I want to see a hot girl do badass things".

Sure, characterization and sexualization are not mutually exclusive.  Doesn't mean one can't be given A LOT more thought than the other.  Even if Kamiya tried to do one or two interesting things with her story, it was still an afterthought.

I would never buy a Wii U, because lets face it the console is pure feces laced with autistic attractions.

But honestly I can't imagine playing a game like bayonetta unless I was single or had zero friends. Whether it was my buddies or girlfriend, if they walked in and saw that shit I'm going to look like Prince Masturbator of Jizz Mountain. I wouldn't even make eye contact with myself after some of those scenes. Fuck

Bayonetta should be whatever the fans want it to be. If they want her to be a strong black woman who doesn't need no man and dresses sexy to please herself, so be it. Create your own reality, anything is possible.

Nobody plays the game outside of a few forum dwellers. It bombed in Japan and will bomb here. So...who cares.

Bayonetta sold 1 million.

My mother walked in on me playing Bayonetta and said she looked pretty and had no second thought about it at all. It was just another dumb video game she did'nt care about.

Do people really give a fuck about these things? Am I supposed to care that my sister thinks I'm ikky for playing a game like this while she watches the latest Twilight movie that goggles the pecks of Taylor Lautner in an extreme voyeuristic matter? I don't think so. I see posts on here and GAF about how "oh no I'd be so embarrassed if someone say me watching a tna thing". This is'nt child porn. It's trashy tna. No one I've ever known has given a fuck about this.

I don't know why people are so embarrassed over little irrelevant things.

Nope. Did'nt have a PS1. Never played those games. The entire thing seemed to the mere fact that she had obviously big boobs and tight shorts. We live in an age now were boob physics are a given. Bayonetta hardly seems that crazy today.

I'm not. I'm talking about how things are different now. I can't remember a 90s sexy video. Maybe Madonna's like a paryer and whatnot. The sexy thing there was maybe you saw her bra or something. Maybe Mariah Carey videos and what was sexy about those was that she was on a beach in her bikini. Those are tame and nothing these days.

Rah how old are you? In the 90s she was considered like this gaming sex icon because she she had big boobs and big ass and she was among the first female characters - that I remember - to actually star and have her own game, besides Mrs Pacman. In other games you could play as girls, peach in Mario 2, the girls in MK or SF or KoF or Metal Slug;etc. but games did not STAR girl characters then.  This was why Lara was pretty huge, because  our generation didn't really have a Mrs Pacman. In the mid and late 90s, big boobs, big lips, and hips were pretty big from what I remember. Think the chick who plays the mom on Step by Step. It's partially why it was a huge deal that Angelina Jolie played her.

Bayonetta is on the edge of your wife being mildly embarrassed you're playing it, and your wife being deeply ashamed.  But most of the shit coming out in glorious Nippon these days are divorce worthy so it has that going for it.

I always interpreted the sexuality in Bayonetta to be tongue in cheek, hilariously aware, and empowering because a lot of her moves are bdsm moves and she fights Angels and she's a witch. I never really cared about it past that, and if the guy I were dating were playing Bayonetta and not Call of Duty I would be so happy.

I'm all for sexuality in videogames as long it's done in a way that doesn't feel like it's pandering to teenage boys.

There are developers and games that are not written to pander to that demographic. They're uncommon, though.

It's got nothing on God of War or Dead or Alive, and whatever sexual stuff encompasses a pretty small part of the game. In fact, I've only heard of people being embarrassed to play Bayonetta only recently. I certainly didn't hear any of this talk about embarrassment when the game came out.
