Actually in a way, this GamerGate thing is a glorious celebration of our wealthy Western society.

I'm not going to defend doxxing or arguing on twitter or anything like that, but the actual threat level to anyone on either side is borderline zero. All of these people involved have like an infinitely greater chance of dying in their bathroom this week than anything that comes out of this.

And people on both sides, right or wrong depending on their personal circumstance, are seriously writing things like "trying to fucking survive this shit" over an internet argument in which nobody even knows what anyone else is arguing for or against.

This is like some next level evolution of the mating of "SOMEONE IS WRONG ON THE INTERNET" with slacktivism into an unholy spawn in which the revolution isn't televised because it merely exists as an extended hypothetical and intangible idea to the point where you want it to be a series of false flag ops to distract us from some horrible genocide or something because the alternative is the recognition that the internet has permanently removed the distance that once protected us from the "knowledge" of our fellow humans.

And that, that is the abyss that also gazes in you.

1) part people concerned about gaming sites and journalist ethics, think that sites and people like Leigh Alexander have a chilling effect on indie developers or up and coming writers.

2) people look to take down the reps of gaming sites as moochers, liars and egostical asshole personalities. Still angry at the disdain shown by sites to fans over mass effect 3 ending  for example

3)people pissed at feminists demanding changes

4) trolls looking for the lulz and pissing off said feminists and other critics.

And then you have the crazies that send out death threats.

Biggest takeaway for me is a lot of developers and sites live in a bubble that don't know how the internet works.

Nah, these guys are us, they grew up like us have the same experiences as us. They know exactly what they are doing - in the journalistic sense they create controversy for clicks, even rallying against their own consumers (controversy -> clicks). Devs are devs. I'm a dev, the people around me are devs, we all say stupid shit and do stupid shit all the time. When I check my colleagues facebook/sm occasionally I facepalm harder than that snoop facepalm emote, not everyone however, Most people in a 10 year age band around me are very familiar with the net, it's them 50 year old coders that do the dumb things like voice moronic opinions in public.

Driveclub delayed almost a year. It ends up sucking.
The game that Sony advertised constantly - destiny - in almost all of its pre-release showings, ends up being a colossal disappointment.
There's nothing on the system as good as Forza Horizon 2, Dead Rising 3, or Forza 6 ( is that what number they're at now?)  yet.
