It feels like some forced sense of progressivism. It comes off as fake. It doesn't help that people are being banned for having any form of alternative opinion and that the mods are puffing their chests being all,"that's not progressive

I said all I really had to say in that thread, which is, "It's a waste of time trying to convince people they aren't or are offended." I have no idea why anyone bothers. You're never going to successfully convince someone who is upset that they aren't upset, which is what all those threads come down to. Different people are upset by different things. I'm not so sure why that's hard to understand for some people.
If I misgendered you, you would be upset. But the vast majority of the rest of the thread wouldn't mind, and would attempt to explain to you why you shouldn't be upset. This is the nature of virtually every contentious thread on GAF, people yelling at other people and demanding they not feel what they feel. People trying to use logic to argue people out of hurt feelings. Giant waste of everyone's time. And virtually every poster on GAF is guilty of this at one point or another. Everyone's unflappable until it's their ox that gets gored.
