Lol it seems every new unveiling of ANY comic character in a movie has the requisite "LOOKS LIKE SOME KID AT HOT TOPIC" posts.

Looks great to me, they did a good job making the actor's head look less weird :yeshrug

I seriously can't discuss comic book movies on Gaf. As it's 90% idiocy and babbys throwing their toys out of the pram, same with that Jared Leto Joker pic thread.

I remember when the Sony stans were jerking off over her switching to Naughty Dog and the Microsoft stans were trying to put the fact Halo 4 was a shitpile on her shoulders as a way to pretend they were glad she was leaving...

As far as I can tell her total contributions to ND were involvement in an HD port of an existing game and a bullshot trailer for Uncharted 4...

even though I agree with his post in principle, lmao at that conclusion from the "Snow" riot:
Quote
ARTHUR BOWEN'S MIDNIGHT RAMBLE was followed by Washington's first race riot, an outbreak of violence that has largely been forgotten.

Pro and anti-slavery forces crystallized during that particular time period and also emerged in Congress in the years following the riot. The electoral map of the U.S. still corresponds roughly to the divisions between the red and blue states to this day.
Nobody gives a shit about the riot then or now (doesn't even have a Wikipedia page, the proof of what things matter and what don't: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_riots#Nineteenth_century), but it happened at the same times as other things do that coincidentally share similarities with completely different things now.

I like how the Blair Mountain description itself says "16 years later something happened in different industries!" and in the immediate aftermath:
Quote
Following the battle, 985 miners were indicted for murder, conspiracy to commit murder, accessory to murder, and treason against the State of West Virginia. Though some were acquitted by sympathetic juries, many were also imprisoned for a number of years, though they were paroled in 1925. It would be Bill Blizzard's trial where the unexploded bomb was used as evidence of the government and companies' brutality, and ultimately resulted in his acquittal.

In the short term, the battle was an overwhelming victory for management. UMW membership plummeted from more than 50,000 miners to approximately 10,000 over the next several years

And best of all is him linking to the Watts riots as evidence of riots contributing to the Civil Rights Movement. When it resulted in absolutely zero action being taken by authorities and was the precursor to the Newark, Detroit, Chicago, D.C., Balitmore and Cleveland riots of 1967-68 that also accomplished nothing. Which like Watts were all notably on the downward slope of the Movement's rise and fall, and Detroit's riots arguably kicked off the white backlash. Although three of the riots started on the same calender date as my birthday...take that as you will...

Lastly, his thread title uses "anarchy" in place of "chaos", more of the bigotry and struggle that me and my brothers in peaceful opposition to the legitimacy of the violence of the state face  :fbm

The thing about the MLK speech he picked, and not the Letter from the Birmingham Jail, is that the Letter has the better version of the argument Amirox is trying to make.

To pick one of the lines expressing this from the Letter:
Quote
The Negro has many pent up resentments and latent frustrations, and he must release them. So let him march; let him make prayer pilgrimages to the city hall; let him go on freedom rides -and try to understand why he must do so. If his repressed emotions are not released in nonviolent ways, they will seek expression through violence; this is not a threat but a fact of history.

Ghandi's comments on without the British liberal tradition he would have had to turn to violence being of a similar nature.

He's left a gap in his argument about the triggers of "riots" or violent protests. And basically is just saying "sometimes years later or at the time we agree with the rioters grievances!" Which is what lets in all the "but they could do this without violence" people.

EDIT: Not to say that the latter can't be true, especially in this Baltimore case where it does seem like opportunists since they came out after the march from what I read, Police Chief Daniels is a total failure.

The goal is to find a weakness in the opinion terrorist's post even if it's not an actual flaw in the argument, and to target it full force to invalidate and/or distract from the opinion as a whole. Seen it time and time again.  :zzz

I was being told a story about how ~French~ French people could be by my parents and the story ended up with them being caught in the crossfire of direct action (People's Exhibit 543908431) because that's so ~French~ but instead of just saying strike or even direct action they said grève like I was supposed to know what that word meant and then acted like I was an utter imbecile for not knowing. #dreamsofmyfather

Really, the Detroit riots are a perfect counterexample to whatever his argument seems to be. You had armed white groups forming because they were afraid the blacks were going to attack the suburbs. The 82nd Airborne was called in and deployed, LBJ and the military used it as a template for potential occupation of American cities if things got worse and guerrilla warfare became a reality since this was the start of the 1967-68 riots/protests over, well, everything, the war, civil rights, etc.

The city has never really recovered from it and the earlier destruction of Black Bottom. (The economics of the auto industry basically just twisted the knife in.) It essentially created the Detroit-Wayne County/Oakland-Macomb divide. Whole swaths of the city have never been rebuilt. Though they did build a Casino on Grand River.

And polling before the riots was actually moving in greater favor of integration/coexistence compared to the 1940s and 1950s, including in city government. (Not that that would have improved the police.)
