Also, every community past a certain size needs filters. Reddit is one big whitelist if you want it to be (a blacklist with RES), 4chan has built in filtering, but also a bunch of 3rd party extensions. All GAF has is the ignore list and community threads. Filter bubbles may be lamentable, but at a certain point there's just too much chaff to sift through, no matter how open minded or fair you want to be to everyone.

Lore should just replace the entire staff at this point, along with rebooting the rules. So much inconsistency, so much questionable decision-making. Maybe keep Stump, Ghaleon, Cyan and Cornballer, re-mod Blackace, and make PD an administrator. Then they could vet about 20 new mods and start over. I'd also have 2-3 year term limits. People like bishop are well past their prime as moderators, and it shows.

PD wouldn't be as lenient about my GoT trolling as Cornballer. Cornballer just deletes my posts, PD would ban me.

Best gaming side mod hands down. Never involves himself in console wars. Mods threads and keeps it moving. And even warns a thread when the big stick is about to get brought out. It's a shame the other gaming side mods aren't like him.

Agreed. It's like just by virtue of numbers the shit posters kind of control the forum. They post the most threads. They post the click bait honey pot threads also that draw in and encourage the stupidity. And with Evilore's war on community threads, you can't even escape into them like you use to be able to. It's just a big mess honestly.

And yeah it does feel like a shitty reddit, where you can't just filter out all the annoying shit you don't want like on reddit.

You can't just run a site like that with so many members like its the bore and throw all that shit into one place. It needs sub-forums at minimum. But they'll never do that

The modding in general is much better than it use to be and certainly when I was there and it hasn't noticeably improved the quality of the site. The mods are an easy target and of course there are occasional stupid bans and such but if we are being honest, that's not the problem.

Not untrue, but you can't change your audience... I think a forum the size of Gaf, which is generating some income, should actually make mods professionnal and pay them (of course, in return it must be treated as a job with clear guidelines, and maybe should be given to outside of the forum people). 6 people working in shifts could probably insure 24/7 coverage.

Will never happen under EL, though.
