I think I spent like 200 something on a new 64 GB Mini 3 and I needed something to replace my aging desktop.

If anything, the reason why I decided to use minimal cash and a few gift cards to get my iPad was BECAUSE I was saving.

Hell, if price matching means I'm saving only 4 cents, I WILL do it (I've kept track, and have saved 9 dollars this year alone doing so, that's nearly enough to pay for a month of music subscriptions, something which will not exceed 90 USD this month, an acceptable luxury IMO).

Why is there such a mean and militant streak within the trans community?

Look at the discrepancies in violent crime victim statistics for people who are trans vs. those who are cis. (I don't agree with your generalization but I think you should consider this.)

I don't think that's the main reason, it probably has more to do with the "soft" discrimination as far as job opportunities and general bigotry in basically every society in the world. I only really know one trans person in real life and she's ranted to me about how outside of creative industries which directly benefit from diversity, it is very hard for them to get a job in something that isn't sort of taking advantage of them as a stereotype like cosmetics retail and hairdressing.

Realistically, they're lagging behind gay people by decades in acceptance and who could be happy in a society where most people automatically dislike you?

Not to say violence isn't a big deal, this was actually something she just posted on FB.

Even if public assistance has phaseouts it can be stupidly counterproductive if the purpose of it is to make sure people use it as a short-term measure. The EITC for a single taxpayer without any dependents immediately comes to mind, but AmeriKKKa is all about shitting on people who don't get down with dat cishet scum sickness. :idont

To be fair, the entire purpose of the U.S. tax code is to employ the tax preparation/attorney industry.

Most paycheck drones (even ones that itemize) could self-prepare if they weren't too scared / stupid / whatever to do it themselves. I don't actually work on that many tax returns a year, it's just that the ones I do work on are stupidly complex and take a long time. (And they become increasingly complex over time chasing tax savings while paying more in preparation fees in a bizarre ouroboros of inefficiency.)

I know a person who regularly pays H & R Block to get them a refund for close to/less than they pay to H & R Block.

He's a manager in retail.

My parents got a letter from the IRS this year demanding all sorts of answers, my mom had accidentally wrote the wrong number from one form on a line on another so it made the total off by like three dollars. She sent it back with a letter explaining the error. The IRS sent like three more letters demanding she respond. Just the other day they finally sent one saying "well, okay, we got it, you're fine...this time."

I assume it's because of my postings on the internet. Especially about BA's synthesis. I can't see any other explanation.

I don't disagree, I was just trying to present a very stark and not particularly discussed facet to (hopefully) induce self-reflection instead of othering. I wouldn't try to offer an exhaustive explanation, I couldn't do it justice.

It's impressive how efficient hourly minimum wage employees (admittedly by necessity) are with their withholding, especially contra those in higher echelons of wage labor. Overpaid, underworked, but just the right amount of oafishness: the labor aristocracy. :american

The IRS is blowing hot air until you get a notice of intent to levy. Don't get me wrong, you need to comply with the early communications, but it's an institution that overcompensates for being (compared to other federal enforcement agencies) toothless by projecting a menacing persona it doesn't have the resources to back up. Most people don't deal with them beyond filing a tax return, which just makes the charade that much easier for them.

They were concerned about it, but they didn't take my suggestion to cancel the original check and demand the IRS present the signed contract that entitles them legitimate authority to claim the fruits of ones labor.

I should have thought of having them mail back some Warren Mosler literature with the suggestion that the IRS merely credit the governments' account since they actually don't get anything from taxes.

I've loved someone on the opposite coast of the USA for 2 years. I'm moving back... #1
...but she has been with someone else in NYC for over a year.

When I say loved...we were both single when I met her in December of 2013. I have worshiped this girl from morning through night...no matter what people have said or what light she's been painted -- my best friend told me she's not worth it, but I never stopped. When I was with her, I was happy, and so was she. The problem was the timing -- we never lived in the same city. She in NYC, and I in Los Angeles.

First thing's first, I will never encroach upon her and her relationship. I'll never interfere with them, I'm just not that kind of guy. I might be moving back from CA to NJ/NY for a job in a month or two, so what now? Ignore her? The truth is, I honestly fell in love with this girl when I met her. She's the one, I know it in my heart...and though I've been in a few relationships and had some wonderful times in the interim, all my thoughts and memories come back to her. She's all I've thought about in the reciprocate years...it's been incredibly painful, and now I don't know what I have to do in order to move on.

There's no legitimate chance I'll be with her right? I've got to get the fuck over her, yeah?

While it's over the top I can slightly understand him. This guy doesn't have a lot of fun in life most of the time. He fights a constant battle with cancer, something I sadly can very much relate to, and all kind of other serious health problems on top of that. For some people in these situations it gets very hard to still be passionate about something and he obviously was very passionate about GAF.

I co-sign any article that blasts white feminism :lawd

Real talk, this is not black and white (lol):

1. Nicki is stoopid. This has nothing to do with race.
2. Anaconda is shit.
3. Nicki thinking Anaconda is a good representation of black women makes her even more stoopid.
4. That was none of Tay-tay's business and she had not reason putting her hand on the TEApot.
5. Using her white feminism to disparage Nicki's (already stupid) point and make it about herself rather than address the issue is White Feminism 101.

We should determine how many of the videos feature thin-waisted women and then how many different women with thin waists are in each of those videos and then rank them by that quantity. It might actually be amusing (unlike anything else related to this).
