Resident Evil Remake: HD edition
« on: August 05, 2014, 06:55:45 AM »
Capcom is remaking the original Resident Evil game for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, as well as Xbox 360 and PS3.

 :o :o :o :o :o :o

he game is based on the 2002 GameCube version, and will be upgraded to 1080p on PS4, PC and Xbox One, as well as feature enhanced 3D models and textures, and 5.1 surround sound.

You’ll also have the option to switch between the classic 4:3 ratio to 16:9 widescreen, and controls can be tweaked too.

“The classic control scheme remains for fans of the original play style or there’s an alternative scheme where the character moves directly in the direction of the analogue stick, utilizing the standards of the current generation of gaming,” detailed Capcom.

“Both the control scheme and the display options can be toggled between at any time during gameplay.”

The game is due in early 2015. Screens here are from the Xbox 360/PS3 version of the game.

But hey, please keep doing this Capcom.  I want PN03 HD :drool

A two-generation old game really shouldn't be having its framerate halved on newer hardware.  Use your whole ass for once, Capcom.

WTF?!

:dead

EDIT: Oh, you mean that the game should be 60 FPS.  It was 30 FPS originally.

Good news. Too bad REmake is so challenging that the game feels too fucking oppressive and like a chore. Still, will buy.

Have you ever played REmake? No, it steps it up 1000 times. The atmosphere is incredibly oppressive and frightening. Game is also tough.

Maybe I can finally play this without shitting my pants. I got through Parasite Eve 2 okay, this won't be much scarier I guess. Stuff like Amnesia is what I legitimately cannot deal with.

Thought for a second the backgrounds would be rerendered but they are not (admittedly very naive) but they are not, just upscaled/filtered. GAF thread is in uproar over the crushed blacks, lol.

How come seemingly no company has the data for their prerendered games anymore? Shouldn't it be trivial to redo the scenes at a higher resolution?

their ports aren't broken or anything; they're just "hey remember that game you liked? well here it is again, exactly the same, for almost as much as you originally paid for it!"

It wasn't too long ago that they would just throw away the source code or leave it to rot and be forgotten somewhere. Strikes me as strange, too.

Exactly what I remember, hence the huge trouble they would have upgrading that.

Maybe if this sells they can do RE 2 Remake, full works. Def better then RE7

It's Capcom. They'll do 7 despite fans thinking this very thing: If I buy a port of a remake of port of a port, I'll get a remake!

NOPE.

The last time they did this they printed 11 copies of each game, so I don't think sales are going to indicate too much.

I'm comparing this release more to the RE2/RE3/CV ports on Cube and PS2. REmake came with fanfare, those others were just shat out with few upgrades like this one seems to be.

Don't matter. Capcom will spit on their fans to spite their sales. Fans have wanted a remake of 2 for ages. Capcom hears you, Capcom don't give a shit. Buy REmake in the hopes of getting it, brehs. (Capcom laughs all the way to the bank as they sink on their ship)

it would probably cost as much to remake 2 as it would to make a whole new game. even with the bruising RE's taken, a new installment is still going to outpunch an awesome remake of a classic saleswise.  as REmake showed originally, actually.

And that's why they won't do it. It costs too much when they can make another third person shooter action game but shitty and piss the fanbase off some more!

To be fair, this game has been landlocked in Nintendo hell for years and if you wanted to replay it you either had to have a GameCube or a wii. Something most people no longer have.

This is good news. Here's hoping KILLER 7 is next.

I think he means that RE's demographic is skewing older and the best means to get new fans is to release an HD version of its most cherished game (sans 1 or 4) for a new generation. Which is wishful thinking at best.

Apparently they don't play well with modern systems. That and Capcom probably lost the ports code.
