Trying to set a new PS4 for my newphews, PS+ question
« on: August 17, 2014, 04:05:08 PM »
I don't have my account activated on any PS4s yet and they haven't bought a PS+ card. I intended to activate my account on their systems anyways, but would that allow them to play online even if they're using their own new accounts?

Also, how does master/sub account work here? Never had to bother. Does mine need to be master for any of this to work?

When you first setup a PSN account on a PS4, it asks you if you want to set that PS4 as the primary console. Doing so will let any other account on the console have access to whatever games the primary account has bought, as well as the other PS+ stuff like online play even if those other accounts don't have Plus.

AFAIK, there's no master/sub account system like there is on PS3. Multiple accounts can have the same console set as their primary one. You can have as many secondary consoles as you want tied to your account, but you have to be online to play digital games on it and your account can only be logged in onto two consoles at any one time.

But what if I buy me a PS4 in the future? I'm guessing I have to activate that as a primary account and the kids will lose access to everything on their system.

Also can primary accounts be deactivated remotely? We'll be in different continents soon.

They'll lose access to the PS+ perks, yeah. If you leave the account there as a secondary one, they can at least still play any of your digital PS4 games by having your account stay logged on,

Yeah, you can deactivate a PSN account from anything remotely via the the accout settings page in the webstore.

Err, kind of. You have to either manually deactivate the primary console on the console itself, or you can use the webstore and force a deactivation on everything that the account is activated on, but you can only do that once every six months.

Ah, got it. I just hope by "deactivate all" it deactivated all my Sony systems. And I can live with a single deactivation every 6 months.

Shti. Apprently there's still the master/sub crap since they're creating new accounts.

Ah, I see it now that I went into the settings on mine. TBH I never had to dabble with sub accounts before, and I have multiple ones activated on my ps4.

What is it that you're trying to setup? Have your account be the master while your nephews are all subs? Have all of them be masters?

I want them to create new PSN accounts but I don't want them to be stuck as subs. So I guess I need to deactivate my account and have them sign up, then activate again. Cause as of now it's asking me (as master) to allow them to sign up.

Maybe that'd do it then. Like I said, I've never had to deal with the Master/sub account thing so I don't know much that can help there.  ???
