Any speculation on a price point? Will it be priced the same or will they have it at a higher PP?

you know i was thinking... couldn't nintendo have released some sort of expansion thinga-majig for the 3DS, instead of this whole "a lot of our new games will only run on our new 3ds! time to buy it again!"

i mean it worked back on the N64 days...

the xenoblade port will only run on this new 3DS because apparently this 3DS has more CPU or something like that, you know that right? it's not even going to be the only game that will be exclusive to the new 3DS

Quote
Satoru Iwata also mentioned that several other titles are in development exclusively for the New Nintendo 3DS. These will not be playable on the old 3DS models.

The N64 was designed from the start to be expanded on, and even giving the bloody RAM pack away, it still went badly.

Like, what could they do here?  This isn't a simple RAM upgrade, they've switched the CPU.  That's not exactly something you can let an eight year old swap in and out.

I don't know, that's why i'm asking you rude moron :beli

BTW, buying a New 3DS, all the Amiibos, and Xenoblade 3D. :hyper

And apparently they're still going to sell the originals (at least the 2ds, there's a Mario Kart bundle coming)

This is all going to be hilariously confusing for parents

on another nintendo-related note, trading my 2ds in today (not to buy any of this announced bullshit)

I'm probably gonna do the same Tuesday if that Homebrew channel game exploit doesn't "leak" sometime in the next few days. Fuck waiting around just to play 5 titles on the system.   :lol

evidently no one's the target audience anymore, when it comes to dedicated handheld systems

i mean, vita's only $30 more than a 3DS and comes with a game/memory card, is umpteen times more powerful, sony throws free games out the door at people every month, and they still can't give that motherfucker away

To be fair, you can play those free games on a Nvidia shield if you bought them off Steam. :hitler

Sony should've put in a bit more effort than they did after the initial lukewarm response. Uncharted and (as much as I hate to say it) Killzone were "system sellers" if they demoed KZ like they did Uncharted. Then it was just a matter of putting out some games from Bend instead of letting Bend do PS4 work.

The 3DS doesn't really have a strong market and the rest of the market (like me) is waiting for someone to finally crack the system wide open to pirate Japanese games that won't come over, similar to the DS.

vita is doing better in japan after releasing...you guessed it, games.

sony US is doing jackshit and sony Europe ran out of $1 steam indie games to bundle.

Nintendo is blessed with great first party studios and they are damn stubborn.

Should have been put on WiiU instead... shrug. As much as my dick is throbbing for Xenoblade, I already played it, so I'm not really jumping at the bit.

Maybe they'll do a port like Bayo.

guessing that this new 3ds will have more ports than original games.  unless there's majora's mask, might as well wait until the proper next one.

I like that they showcase the new speed with a download.  still can't download games in the background, but now the wait is a little less long.

I... kinda feel like I wasted money eight months ago importing a Japanese 3DS.  Could've put that money towards something more important back then.

Though I dunno if it would be more beneficial to get a NA New 3DS (that's seriously the name????) or a Japanese New 3DS.  Probably the latter, but I have a Japanese XL already because I couldn't wait to play Bravely Default. -_-

I'll probably wait until next year when I'm making more money.  Get homebrew and region-bypass out already, people!

feels like all these people you wouldn't expect come out of the woodwork whenever new hardware is announced for anything, is this a 'gamer' thing? lotta people i know acting like it's a foregone conclusion they'll buy it, i don't get it, people really want xenoblade portable?

i never bought a dsi and that's what this looks like to me. not gonna pass my personal litmus of five great exclusives before it dies, gonna be easy to wait until 4ds or whatever. i don't use 3d so that shit is useless to me, and i don't play games on portables that need a second stick. resolution is really the only hardware improvement i was looking to see, and seems like nintendo is gonna drag their feet there as long as they can.

maybe this will keep 3ds viable a bit longer here in the US so that we don't end up missing out on all the late-ass JPN localizations, so that's a bright spot.

edit: reading this back i think i sound angry for some reason haha, i'm actually totally fine. i just bought an effing wii u last night, i don't need new hardware!

 :yeshrug

GBC shouldn't even be used as a comparison to me because it came out like 9 years after the original GB was released and felt like a new console (plus it took a while for exclusives to get moving on that system). GB Pocket should be the better comparison since it came out two years before the GBC.  DSi and WM+, I'll give you.  DSi is some good hardware, though.  That D-Pad feels so good, and the matte finish is easy on the hands. It's what the DS Lite should've been.

Talked it over with Sunblade and I'm not getting a new 3ds until a few years from now (and if I do, it might be a Japanese one). I can deal without handheld Xenoblade because I already played that game and while it's a good game, I don't think it's as super-duper-awesome as a lot of people say it is cuz it has some problems.

Better not release Majora's Mask for New 3DS-only, though.

The 3DS is the first Nintendo handheld I've owned and while I guess it should have been obvious there was bound to be another version, I just didn't think it would be like this. I mean I expected another revision, but not one that would keep me from buying games I'd want to. I guess this is a new system, I really can't tell. Is it a completely new system or a simply a revised 3ds? Should I buy it because there will be more games coming for it? Or should I buy it because I just want xenoblade, but there won't be any real other "New 3ds only games"? Am I going to miss games by not having it? Features? Are some games going to run worse because they actually developed it for the new 3ds and then just decided it should also come to the regular 3ds? Lots of questions.

I don't really like buying more then one system. I never bought a PS2 Slim, I use the fat one till this day. I've only had one PSP and will hopefully only have one Vita. I got all that I could out of my 360 and PS3 before having to upgrade. So basically this rubs me the wrong way and I don't like it.

It's what the DS Lite should've been.

Gameboy had a weird lifecycle, so the timelines don't really match up but hardware-wise, comparing GBC and New 3DS makes sense.  Pocket was just a slim revision with a better screen. Color had more RAM and a better processor than GB/GBP.  The same went for DSi vs. DS and now New 3DS vs. 3DS.

I have no regrets with GBC, but it's DSi that left me cold. I liked the matte design and considerably better D-pad, but in hindsight, I would've been fine staying put with the lite. There wasn't a lot of DSi-exclusive software and the eShop stuff is playable on 3DS. Publishers and developers didn't want to ignore the massive DS userbase, so DSi suffered for it. I expect New 3DS to have a similarly limited library, especially since optimism regarding dedicated handhelds is kind of gone.

This is the dumbest shit ever.  I thought we were going to get the 3DS successor, aka the only non-mobile place that videogames from Japan will still be made for in 3 years, next year.  Something between Vita-Wii U power with TV-out.

But instead there's this, and all it will do is confuse and divide the market that's already dying moreso and delay the real 3DS successor until 2016 at earliest.  Booooooo

Assuming we are talking about the GAF post I think we are, the correct answer is that the New 3DS desperately needs a Tropical Freeze port. Displaying mad skills in that at Target is how you move consoles.

I appreciate them adding more buttons and solidifying/de-emphasizing the second analog stick(c-stick?), but given that it's a bit into the 3DS life-cycle it might make for some weird support issues. Or is this a new machine separate from the 3DS ala wii -> wii u? idk. whatever, I haven't bought a 3DS yet cus I figured they'd run some iterations like nintendo is want to do and I was, and still am, waiting for the region lock issue to be solved before I bother.
