Bought a used XB1 yesterday evening from a friend-of-a-friend for $250. Hook it up today, won't recognize my Gold sub. Get on the line with chat (all typos have been left intact):
Laura: Welcome to Xbox Customer Support! My name is Laura.
Laura: How are you doing today?
you: Pretty decent, and yourself?
Laura: I'm doing great. Thanks for asking.
Laura: If I got it correctly, you are having an issue with the Xbox Live GOld not showing on the account, correct?
you: Yes, my XBL Gold subscription is not being recognized on the Xbox One I just bought.
Laura: Thanks for bringing this to our attention. No worries, we can work together to isolate the concern.
Laura: May I have the gamertag attached to the account please?
you: My gamertag is Eel O Brian When I bought my Xbox 360 last year, I did it with the 2-year contract plan, where you paid $14.99 a month for Xbox Live and got the 360 for $99. I am wondering if that might have something to do with it.
you: It's showing as active and in good standing on my 360.
Laura: Oh, okay. Thanks for clearing that out.
you: The $14.99 monthly plan renews on 9/9, I believe.
Laura: Basically, as for the 2 year contract plan, the Xbox Live Gold is console based. Meaning, the Xbox Live Gold is activated on the console and not on the account itself. So if you are going to use or sign in the account using a different console, the Xbox Live gold will not be carried over.
you: You mean I have to buy a whole other Gold subscription?
Laura: You have an option to contact the retailer store where you purchased the console and the one that provides the 2 year contract if they can transfer the subscription to a different console.
you: You guys provided the contract, Gamestop just sold me the console.
you: and Xbox Live Gold is supposed to be accessible across systems.
Laura: No, it's the store that provides the contract. It's an agreement between the store and the buyer.
you: I am paying YOU
Laura: That's why they are selling the console on a lower price.
Laura: What we have are the regular monthly and yearly subscription wherein it's attached to the account. On the 2 year contract plan, the subscription is attached to the console itselg.
Laura: itself*
you: This is a little ridiculous, to be honest. I've been a Gold subscriber off and on since the original Xbox days. If I'd known that I don't know if I would have even bought the Xbox One. That's $60 extra a year for basically nothing.
you: I mean, evidently I am a loyal customer considering I own both your consoles
Laura: I honestly understand your concern and I am with you on this. However, that was the agreement agreed on the 2 year plan where the GOld is attached to the console and not on the account. This is also the reason why we advise you contact the store if they have an option to transfer the contract to a different console serial number.
Laura: As much as I want to help you with this matter, we just don't have an option to transfer the Xbox Live gold from one console to another given that there is a contract and agreement between the store and the console owner.
you: So, you're not going to do anything for me, basically.
Laura: If I can only transfer the subscription for you, then I would be more than willing and glad to do it in a heartbeat. However, we just don't have that option here on our end and we cannot bypass the system ruling. Only the store has the capacity and has the possible option to transfer the gold from one console to another.
you: You could give me a XBL Gold code to use on my Xbox One. Wouldn't hurt you guys a bit, and would keep me happy, and buying your games in the future.
you: Because paying for two subscriptions is kinda BS.
Laura: Oh, I wish I can do that. I am an Xbux user myself and if only we have an option to just generate Xbox Live code here on our end, then I would be the first person to do it on my account. But then again,we cannot bypass the system and we cannot generate Xbox Live codes.
Laura: I understand that, that's why we advise to contact the store to check if they can transfer the subscription to another console.
Laura: The type of subscription you have is the 2 year plan and that's why the subscription is attached to the console itself.
you: Well, I suppose we could dance around this all day, but the bottom line is I either cough up another an extra $60 to you people or I'm SOL.
you: I knew buying an XB1 was a mistake
Laura: I honestly understand where you are coming from but our hands are tied here. This is the reason why we are providing you the way we have which is contacting the store. Though, we'll respect your decision and opinion.
Laura: Do you have any other clarifications or concerns that I can answer for you today?
you: No, I think I've been screwed quite enough today, thanks
