Love late harvest rieslings and gewurztraminers myself. The occasional red is nice with a steak too. I'm not really huge into tannins (which is strange b/c I don't mind them in tea).

I love wine. I just can never remember the specific names of the wines that I get when I'm out at a nice restaurant.

Probably should start writing that info down but all I just know is that I like the dark red stuff.  :mynicca

True.

Plus, I keep on gravitating to Malbecs and Pinot Noirs all the time so I need to probably mix it up a bit and get something different.

Haven't had a Shiraz yet so I guess that's what I'll go for next time I'm out.

I'm not a wine freak, but I love wine when it's offered. I am horrible at picking out a wine at a store. Thankfully there are people payed to find out what you like and offer suggestions to fit your individual tastes. I've gotten better at knowing what is is I'm looking for over the years, but since I'm the only one that drinks the wine it ends up being more of a social drink when we have company.

It also helps that I'm a stones throw away from Napa and I grew up in the San Joaquin Valley.

I had red wine once that had tobacco notes in it. On paper it sounded like it should work, but it was awful

I hate smoking of any kind (due to my asthma) and I love the tobacco notes you get in wine/chocolate/bourbon.

The tobacco thing is more a function of oak treatment than anything in the wine (although you get it on some wines naturally, but not in an offensive amount.)

I used to love wine. I live less than an hour from Seneca lake. Every summer we go wine tasting up one side of the lake or the other. Tastings are fine, but I find myself not being able to finish a whole glass of it.

I lost the taste, brehs. :tocry

I like wine, but I'm uneducated. I tend to like pinot noirs but really will drink any red that isn't merlots. Don't care for whites tho.

My main problem is that it's useless for me to pick up culture. I just gravitate towards whatever is cheapest that I can tolerate generally speaking.

"The name and brand concept are based on the idea of 'Animism' – the belief that every worldly human and non-human object possesses a spiritual essence with the eye being the entrance to that soul. The package design is centered around a screen-printed illustration of an illuminated eye, signifying that the wine is a living object with a soul.  The overall execution is dark and mysterious, with a perfect balance between classic wine brand sophistication and contemporary illustration and design."

this is one of the whitest things I have ever read.

Ugh, this is my biggest problem too. But the thing about wine is that it feels like there's so many different varieties and growers and vintages it's all kinda pointless to log it since it'll be hard to find it again.
Just look at it as a journey. Take chances, enjoy the learning experience, and snap pics on your phone of anything you're enjoying, because you won't remember it, and your handwriting is likely to be crap by the 3rd bottle on any given evening.

I like em dark, heavy, and tannic or spicy. I like Shiraz, Malbecs, Pinot Noir. That's not to say that i don't dislike something lighter, I just tend to prefer those. I will drink a white wine occasionally but all ive had from there are pinot grigios, chardonnay, white sangria and gewurtztraminer. Would definitely be willing to expand all over in that regard.

edit: and Moscatos, Rieslings and various sparkling wines, too.

I like reds, but the histamine level in them will put me over the edge if ANYTHING else is in the air. I've had full blown hay fever attacks after having a high histamine red wine. SO. NOT. FUN.

A beer I've been getting at bars lately is called Tricerahops. I love it.

I was trying to figure out how to throw the IPA haters some truth. However, I think beer and wine are both individual tastes, and there's no way to be "wrong" on something which is entirely subjective.

Unless, of course, we're talking about adjunct lagers or German white wines, which are evil.

I bought it, $11 at Sam's Club. Almost got pressed though: the cashier literally tossed it in my cart. :what

I like it. Not amazing but it has a dark fruit, almost sour taste to it. This is the first wine I've ever bought so I'm no expert, but I like it.

Brehs do you put your wine in the freezer or nah? I put the bottle in there while cooking food, poured a nice cold glass 45 minutes later.

My only question: what do you do after the cork is out? I couldn't get it back in...so I put a paper towel in the stopper...

Vermouth is p. sweet, probably because it's "as far removed from the natural produce of the vine as it is possible for a fortified wine to get."

Been trying lots of wine over the last couple weeks, here are some thoughts.

Bota Box - Cabernet Sauvignon

Good stuff with a bit of a bite. Right now Cabs are my favorite kind of red wine and this brand is excellent for the price.

Franzia - Burgundy

Goes down ultra smooth. Demolished a five liter box of this (with some help) over the last week. What helps is it doesn't seem to have a high alcohol content - it takes a glass and a half to get me where a normal half-glass of another wine would get me.

Newport - Pinot Noir

Picked up a bottle of this at my last wine tasting in Rhode Island. It was one of the two I picked up there because it impressed me so much. I remember it being really sweet for Pinot but I kinda liked that.

I wanna try this stuff now, sounds wild: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mama_Juana
