Yes it is.

I can't cosign the best martial arts movie of the 80's, though. Especially with stuff like The Killer, Hard Boiled, Jackie Chan in his prime, The Prodigal Son, Yes Madam, My Young auntie  but it's up there, and one of the few actually good Hollywood martial arts films alongside The Matrix, Karate Kid and its remake, Rocky series, and Undisputed series and maybe stuff like Million Dollar Baby.

The Last Dragon, I love it, but the choreography is lacking in typical Hollywood fashion, so while it's great movie - and one of my favorites, it's hard to put it over other martial films.

Wait. Given that Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was co-produced by Hollywood, asia wins again. :tocry

Nah, Bloodsport still the goat. Bolo plays a fucking great villain but the tall ass dude from Kickboxer is underrated:

Bolo would destroy you in the ring, but this dude looks like he would go fuck your mother and sisters after he's done dismantling you.

that score, I should sample this shit.

One of the things I love about Kickboxer too is how they try to sell Van Damme as the good but not great sparring partnet at the start and how his buddy doesn't give a fuck about styles. "A kicks a kick, a punch is a punch" lol

Die Hard is great but I wouldn't call it greatest of the 80s. It's the greatest Christmas movie of the 80s though, for sure. Second greatest christmas movie of any period (behind a the 60s grinch cartoon). It isn't Christmas time if I haven't caught Grinch cartoon somwhere. Even if it's like on at a bar or something.

Yeah, the whole thing is some weird mix of an action movie but feels like a Savage Steve Holland film -- another great creator lost with the end of the '80s...  :'(

As a kid, the dude from Kickboxer was a way scarier villain than Bolo, and the whole movie was way less campy, and more someone-could-have-their-head-explode-at-any-moment, than Bloodsport.  But, Bloodsport is definetely the more entertaining and rewatchable of the two.

Depends on my mood, but I give the edge to Kickboxer cause it was the first R rated movie I've ever seen; bias.  That being said my favorite side character in any of them is Ray Jackson in BS.  "i ain't your pal dickface."
:lol

:beli @ the chick ratting out the tournament to the cops, but staying around to watch the blood drenched drama of the finals.

I love that Forrest Whitaker is in Bloodsport, and I love that he's in it after already being in Platoon, Good Morning Vietnam, and right before his starring role in Bird.  Has he ever told stories about it in interviews?  He can't not have something interesting to say about it.

also, holy shit are those latter day John Hyams Van Damme films f**king amazing.  Essential viewing for action fans.

Hyams Sr and Jr both been killing it. I've been telling people for a few years now but if you grow up on the action films of the 80s and 90s, theres a little bit of a classic action movie renaissance going on in the direct to dvd market. Michael Jai White, Scott Adkins, Hyams etc. all putting in serious work.

raises an interesting point, Tong Po wasn't tryin to cheat.  He went the psychological torment, get inside your opponents head, route

"You bleed like Mylee! Mylee... good fuck!"

This scene was mindblowing.

He comes across much better using his native language (surprise). that monologue scene blew my mind.....

really the whole film kinda blew my mind, so heartfelt, such emotion, JCVD revealing that true strength is not physical :ohhh
