Google Voice and calling from a cellphone
« on: September 23, 2014, 09:57:08 PM »
Google Voice's US implementation is not designed to call from non-USA phone numbers. I have a USA number from when I was working there in 2012, and it still works swell for taking and making American phone calls from any computer.

From a cell phone, Google requires that it call an intermediary phone, such as a land line or cell phone. Yes, callers have their cell phone ring their home line, then their desired callee. In most cases, the caller will have the call ring through to their usual phone line.

I assume this is some way of appeasing the telecom overlords.

Until the most recent update, an app called "Mo+" would serve as the intermediary phone call. I would run Google Voice, have it call Mo+ and answer the phone on that app.

Mo+ must recent update requires "credits" to be purchased in order to make calls, so I'm looking for another iOS intermediary app. Any suggestions?

If anyone is interested, Google did remove the third-party app calling support, but then they added standard telephone calls to their iOS Google Hangouts app, so that's cool.
