Two hour phone conference across one “assistance company” and four insurance companies, trying to figure out who isn’t communicating with whom, playing connect the dots across a cloud of interconnected partner companies... and the hospital which is holding my stepfather’s body ransom, now three days gone, over money they were guaranteed six days ago.
Yeah, today can go fuck itself right in the ass.
Jesus that's horrible man!
I spent about half of my day dealing with it again today. Got a call a few moments ago, and it sounds like the hospital insurance people dropped the ball at some point.
1) Pre-guarantee today, this morning, I specifically asked if this meant I could call the funeral home. They said no, but the insurance company stated clearly now, yes, “pre-guarantee” states that the patient will be paid for, so they could have released the body.
2) From the moment their assistance company was engaged, contractually there is nothing stating the hospital can hold a body hostage against insurance payments, that’s not a right they have, so they were wrong from the outset.
3) Full guarantee arrived tonight at 19:00, half an hour after I sicc’d the hounds on them; they didn’t call to advise that it had come through, though they knew I was waiting on it.
Just, seriously, I’m happy it’s over, but if I was litigious, this would be lawsuit time over the suffering they’ve cause my mom and I while we wait for them while they prove they can't find their asses with both hands and a flashlight.
Update: I wrote the above on the heels of finishing a call with the insurance agencies, and 10 minutes later, here at 23:20 in Turkey, the hospital called to let me know they’ve received confirmation from insurance, and have also called the funeral home for me so my stepfather will be moved tomorrow morning.
THANK GOD.
Jesus, what a week.
