What game do you regret losing?
« on: October 08, 2014, 03:51:15 AM »
I unloaded a mess of my games over the past few years, but have occasionally regretted a few of them. Some were sold to a used game shop which does non-Japanese games in Osaka, for pretty good money. Many others were just given away.

I think I’ve yet to re-purchase a game that I’ve sold, but I’ve come close.

What game do you most regret letting go of, and did you sell it or give it away? In PD’s case, was it stolen by your cousin?

I've lost a few games to old friends I rarely visit anymore. Thankfully they're all easy to repurchase if I ever want to replay them.

I regret selling my nes, snes, genesis and n64 plus the games for next to nothing, but then again at least in my experience if you want to sell stuff on craigslist you have to basically give em away. :shaq

i don't really regret it because well, nowadays is easier to emulate that shit but i wonder if they would have ever gained some value had i kept them

Not a game, but the Apple IIgs and games we had got sold off in a garage sale in 1992.  We got an SNES and games out of it, but I really missed not having that computer.  I remember wondering why the hell this nice color computer with games was replaced with this dinky little B/W Macintosh SE/30 that had jack-shit for software and a tiny screen.   :lol

Nowadays I think I just regret having sold some stuff off 10 or more years ago, instead of holding onto it longer so I could sell it for a lot more now, like my Genesis/CD/32X collection.  I had some pretty rare games and everything was complete in box and in excellent condition.

But back in 1998, I sold my Playstation and games off to pay off a debt -which I owed to the game shop I worked at and had bought most of that stuff from- and really regretted it afterwards.  At the time I wasn't playing it much and was mainly playing Neo-Geo and Saturn games.  I figured it would be a good time to move on with the Dreamcast coming.  That was a mistake.  I think I lasted maybe a month with the Playstation, before buying it back after Street Fighter Zero 3 got announced as a PS1 timed exclusive for like six months.   :lol

It took me 10 years to get my collection back again.  A lot of stuff I ended up buying back from the store.  Then on my first trip to Japan in 2001, I went nuts in Akihabara and bought 50+ games.

I had pretty much everything I wanted back again by the mid-2000s, but one game in particular eluded me- Toukidenshou Angel Eyes by Tecmo, which was a 2D fighting game and a precursor of sorts to Dead Or Alive (in that it had females with ridiculously-bouncy chests), that had the odd choice of using both sprite-based and pre-rendered characters.  This wasn't a game that sold off to my debt, but rather I decided I was done with it and sold it to a friend before that happened.  When I decided to get it back, he didn't want to sell it and I could not find it anywhere online.  Both times I went to Japan in 2001 and 2004, the game went unseen.  When I moved there in 2005, I did not find a copy until one my last trips to Tokyo before moving back to the States.  I didn't have some burning desire to play the game or anything; I just wanted to get it back to "complete" my PS1 collection.  Was pretty happy when I got a copy for 5000 yen or so.

My parents sold my NES when we moved because I had a SNES. (Image removed from quote.)

This too.  My brother and father decided that the NES and games we had could be sold off without me.  They got a ridiculously-low amount for everything (like a hundred-something bucks back in '93, from some mail order place in the back a gaming magazine) and the cash was used to buy Street Fighter II Turbo on SNES.  I was happy about that, but not happy about losing the 50-something NES games we had.   :-\

Probably Panzer Dragoon Saga. I sold it for $300 back when I was a poor graduate student and needed the money.

At one point I remember regretting selling my FFT. I wanted to replay it again in 2005 on my PS2 and didn't want to shell out the money for it.

at one point I had a collection of about 150+ NES games - nothing amazingly rare, but almost all of the great ones

I sold them on eBay for a good amount of cash, but now that cartridge emu boxes (like the Retcon 5) are a thing, I wish I still had 'em

I leant somebody Super Mario Sunshine and only ever got the case back. They live out of state so I can't exactly hunt them down. Seconding the dead C64 thing too, though that belonged to my brother. Family gave it to the salvation army or some shit.

Holy mackerel; when did “the Great Flush” actually occur? That’s a stunningly low amount of physical media...

My aunt told my parents of this great idea about how they could sell my PS1 and all of my games for it whenever I got my PS2, so whenever I did get my PS2, that's what they did (without telling, of course)

I ended up losing a bunch of JRPGs (most which weren't cheap to replace) and some dumb games I liked when I was a child, but I was mostly upset about all of the JRPGs

When I was young, my mom gave my NES and about 30+ games away to some second cousin I think I maybe met twice in my life. Some pretty valuable stuff in there too - all the Dragon Warriors and Lolo 3 in particular. I've since managed to build back my NES library 3 times over, though there are a few games I haven't picked up yet that I owned back in the day (Wizards and Warriors, the aforementioned Lolo 3, Ninja Gaiden 3)

You know what game I'm bummed that I sold off? Ghostbusters (PS3).

I need to buy that again.

I’m regretting selling my copy of Brütal Legend, just because I bought the Steam version. I envisioned taking screenshots of the landscapes for my wallpaper. Nope. None of my PCs or Macs are strong enough to run BL, so now I’m without a playable copy.

You know what game I'm bummed that I sold off? Ghostbusters (PS3).

I need to buy that again.

At least that’s an easy fix!

It isn't a particular game but back in my teenage years, I didn't have much money and my parents only allowed me to have one console at a time.  This happened to be during the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era.  So what I'd do is get a PS2, get the games I wanted, and then when something came out on Xbox I wanted (Halo), I'd sell the PS2 and games for Halo.  Then I remember Mario Sunshine came out and then I sell the Xbox to get the Gamecube.  I remember getting maybe 30 cents on the dollar when I'd unload these consoles and games.  Eventually I switched back to an Xbox.  The owner of the store (some mom n' pop outfit) took pity on me and threw in a free Xbox game they said they liked, which was Dynasty Warriors 3, which started my infatuation with Musoufaggotry.  I promptly traded it in for a PS2 when Dynasty Warriors 4 came out.  I wound up sticking with the PS2 but man, I wouldn't be surprised if I wound up wasting over $2,000 doing that stupid shit.

Good thing MEGATON amounted to some shitty Naruto game or else I probably would have swapped the PS2 for this PS2-killa that never emerged :lol

Did you parents think your playtime would multiply with each console owned? :lol
