TLDR: It's about the deconstruction & dismantling of capitalism. Or at least what this person (and a few other critics) took out of it.

Also, Peter Weller isn't in this movie where the fuck are you getting Robocop? That's Ed Harris

Weird. It got good reviews from what I saw. You're saying it sucked?

It's not terrible. I put it slightly under the First Matrix and slightly above The Second one.
YMMV

philosophically its sort of an endorsement of anarchism, at least the ending is.

the subtext (text I guess) is clearly about haves vs. have-nots, but the ending contradicts itself.  I don't think its all meant to hang together as a single coherent message, but as an wildly entertaining film it works just fine (see also, Bong Joon-Ho's similarly muddled but awesome The Host).

I haven't watched this but I will watch it and give you a reading that does not deviate from incorrect thought. When called upon to serve we must answer the call. :american

So yeah...my thoughts that it was really focused on the middle class were sorta correct. Thanks all.

It's a nice movie. I enjoyed the scene where Captain America admitted he liked the taste of babies.

I, for one, enjoyed this movie.

Especially since I watched it shortly after quitting my 2nd job which was causing me nothing but frustration and homicidal rage.  :aah

Harvey Weinstein was right--it did need about 20 minutes cut from the beginning.

nah.  I thought was way over-hyped and falls short of his other works.  I think that it could stand to have about 20 minutes chopped from it

Snowpiercer - feeling like a shitty Asian movie fan, because uh, erm, maybe it could stand to have 15 - 20 minutes chopped from it.  it's not like the characters they're developing are all that great.  It's not a subtle film at all.  good acting, interesting (if polemic) concept.  Everyone who acts in it is p good (chris evans included), but the script and overall arc of the story isn't especially interesting and the ending (which is supposed to inspire hope) is a huge downer if you think about it for more than a minute.

urgh.

oh well.

FWIW, I agree with that review entirely. I watched it recently and was awash in whatthefuckedness.

I'm with Eric, except I didn't like Chris Evans much. I have t say that the scene where they're shooting through the windows from one side of the train to the other might be the stupidest thing I've seen in a film all year.

it's a video game.  he has to battle his way through a linear corridor to get to the end boss, which, of course, is both a disappointment and predictable.  to hide its brainless action, it throws in a few gimmicks that "really make you think."

I didn't mind the film but upon my second watch I realized all the fuckery that was involved.

Dude was "in" on it all along?
End game boss was a total douche
Window shooting with an MP5, the fuck?
Happy New Year? The fuck
Running a torch from the back to the fight in like 11 seconds? The fuck
YMMV

The fuckery is its best quality.  so if that doesnt appeal to you, the movie wont either.  thought the plot twists were cool, in the wtf sorta way.  i also like this movie as an alternative to the US-comic-book-adaptation trend.  i thought captain america 1 and 2 were boring, safe, pieces of shit, for example.  and Tilda Swinton, god bless her for doing this role, she kills it, damn near steals the film.

If you liked it though, Korean action films in general have been making entertaining shit like this for a decade.

i don't mind an unbelievable, ludicrous, contrived korean morality situation, like the vengeance trilogy. fuck suspension of disbelief...easily the dumbest, most overrated concept in criticism.  this just wasn't an interesting set up and was way more action flick with some thought sprinkles on top.
