Blizzcon thread -blizz making pvp console game?-
« on: November 04, 2014, 05:04:35 PM »
Blizzcon is almost upon us and this year could be pretty big

-Hearthstone expansion
-Starcraft 2 - 3
-Diablo 3 expansion
-Wow expansion
-Heroes of the Storm moves into beta
-new ip lol

As always I hope for the last one but we know how that goes. Id like wow to go f2p to but that wont happen for another 3/5 years. Diablo expansion should be hot stuff. Starcraft 2-3 will make me jump back in and play 2/3 for the sp.

From Redditgaf

Hello reddit!

Thought I'd come in here and share some information I got from a friend who contracted at the Eden Prairie office at Blizzard.

Why should you believe? Well, you shouldn't - and I'm not telling you to. Take this post as fun speculation, and then once it's confirmed on Friday, so much the better.

Eye of Azshara is the next expansion to World of Warcraft and is planned to launch Q1 2016. Blizzard is intentionally breaking their mold and announcing this expansion at this year's Blizzcon for a few reasons. First, there's about to be a big company-wide push to bring the Warcraft franchise into the next decade with Hearthstone, WoW, and a PVP Battleground themed console game that will also be briefly teased at Blizzcon. Second, the loss of subscriptions at the end of MoP was a big blow to morale as they went into the expansion planning regular content patches - they want to prove to the gaming community that WoW is going to be around for awhile, and won't go stagnant at the end of the next expansion (the last patch of WoD is tentatively planned 4 to 6 months prior to the launch of EoA)

Eye of Azshara will be the 'South Seas' expansion players have hoped for. Nazjatar will rise from the ocean and Queen Azshara will begin an assault on Azeroth. New zones will include Nazjatar, Zandalar, the Rift of Aln, and Kul'Tiras. The Alliance will ally with a faction of uncorrupted highborne seeking to usurp their former leader, the Horde with a disgruntled Naga tribe. (These are not playable races, but NPC factions)

Azshara is working closely with Sargeras and this expansion will be the second 'pseudo' Burning Legion expansion - heavily legion influenced without the Legion as a central theme. They're building the Legion up big time.
EoA will be introduced at Blizzcon during a video celebrating the next 10 years of Warcraft. Also in the video are clips of the Deathknight class for Hearthstone and an alpha gameplay clip of the console battlegrounds game. The video is narrated by Martin Sheen, in character as Nozdormu, and is a 'glimpse into the future'. Cheeky.

The big focus of Blizzcon, as far as Warcraft goes, will be the content patches of WoD. One of the Tanaan Jungle raids will be previewed (Hellscream's Ascent), but the big news is that Illidan is coming back. When the Legion begins to invade Dreanor in 6.1, Khadgar believes it's time to fight fire with fire and, with the help of Chromie, sends the players back in time on Azeroth to free Illidan from his prison. Illidan comes in as a 'wild card', leading a faction of Demon Hunters against the Legion and Gul'dan. My friend says she doesn't know for sure, but it sounds like Demon Hunters as a playable class is being set up.

Like I said, I don't want you to believe me because enough of these threads pop up - so just take this as fun speculation. See you guys on Friday!

No shits given about anything other than D3 news; highly doubt they'll announce a new expansion though.

The SC2 tournament is gonna be great, looking forward to it.

SC2 expansion news...meh. Unless they add micro specific units what's the point?

WoW...meh. I can't imagine paying to play that shit in 2014. I've heard the raids are fun in MoP but...I can't go back unless it's f2p. I did hear tanking has been revamped though.

D3...meh. I'll give the exp a shot soonish but most of what I've read about it seems very ADHD-centric. Guranteed legendary drops misses the point of what I like about ARPGs, apparently the "end game" is repetitive as fuck, etc. A buddy of mine quit the game (again) after a couple months, I have a feeling I'd do the same thing.

LURKERS OMG :lawd

Micro units :lawd

Carrier fixed :lawd

fuck terran

:leon
Sounds like they're doing exactly what I hoped for: more micro for each race.

The bad: the economy changes :kobeyuck

I understand they want to appeal to casual players but jeez I hope players have an option to play the game as it should be played. Starting with 12 workers would be distinguished mentally-challenged.

Ok after watching a show match last night the economy changes don't seem that bad. It speeds up games significantly, allowing you to quickly get your build going without the traditional 3-5 minute downtime. I think that will make watching the game more exciting, especially for casuals; I'll admit that watching players macro for the entire early game, time after time, gets old.

Also decreasing mineral amounts will force people to expand more. I think this could really lead to longer mid games as players will be able to quickly throw more potent attacks at each other.

One thing I really miss from BW was the sense of fighting over strategic parts of maps, securing contested expansion areas, etc. Perhaps the addition of more siege units will revive this feeling.
