let's talk head/earphones

hi guys. so for the past few years I've been listening to music with some nice Sennheiser HD428 cans at home. when I go out I use these cheap-o maxell $5 earphones that are entirely plastic (no rubber earpieces or anything) with decent enough sound that survive a couple of months before they go out; for the price it's hard to complain. however, I'm starting to crave better sound for when I'm not in my dorm and am in the market for some good, durable in-ear buds. I've shopped around looking at trusted brands like Sony and Senn but reviews seem pretty mixed on models in my budget range (~$50) so I'd love to get some pointers from the audiophiles here.

tl;dr looking for good, durable in-ear buds for about $50

I've been using the Sennheiser CX 300-II for years now on a daily basis.
I always come back to them when they need replacement.

I bought some Yurbuds for running, they're awesome. Sound quality isn't great but they wont fall out.

Otherwise I have some noise cancelling Audio Technica's for normal use and Audio Technica AD-700s for home use.
