Nothing can stop the Hopocalypse (IPA appreciation thread)

When it comes to beers, I like them hoppier than the Second Plague of Egypt. The recent surge in IPA popularity and its associated movement towards over-the-top hoppiness has been great for me.

Stone Brewery has been doing God's work for nearly two decades now, and a beer I frequently come back to is called Ruination IPA. 8.2% ABV, and it's pretty easy to find in California http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/147/4083/

Green Flash also puts out great stuff, and a favorite of mine is called the Palate Wrecker. 9.5% ABV, so it's a little on the stronger side, but totally worth it. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2743/45175/

A great one I've been seeing on tap in more places lately is called Tricerahops Double IPA. A definite favorite if I see it in a bar. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/14400/37966/

On my bucket list is a place in Iowa called Toppling Goliath. I haven't been able to find any shops in the area that carry their stuff, but it's legendary. I want to try their King Sue beer very badly. http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/toppling-goliath-king-sue/252251/

Sculpin is an IPA without peer. I do love Green Flash's West Coast IPA as a mainstay, but it's going to take a hell of a beer to pass Sculpin for me. Not big on its variants tbh (habanero, etc)

Drink IPAs most often but choosing a favorite....that's tough. Sours, IPAs, Quads, Stouts (particularly barrel aged)... dunno what would win out for me.

Not a huge fan of the super-high IBU ones but some of the more mild IPAs I like. I had this ginger/mango IPA from Andean Brewing Company here in NY and it was really fucking good. As for others, Dogfish Head 60 Minute, Stone Ruination, and Lagunitas were all decent. Overall, I prefer saisons, stouts, and witbier to IPAs.

Toppling Goliath is Iowa only. I had a growler of their Zeelander IPA a couple years ago. It's good but a victim of hype like every other beer known to man. You have access to stellar stuff in California like Alpine and Societe, don't worry about TG.

Barley Browns, Bale Breaker, Breakside and Boneyard are your IPA overlords. Come to the PNW.

Also, join Untappd Walrus.

I might be up in WA and OR over the holidays, so I'll definitely try them out.

Let me know if you're in Seattle.
