Pan's Labryinth and my date

First off, a review:

I've been hyped for this movie ever since seeing the teaser a year ago. Although the movie didn't live up to all the hype, I must say it's a brilliant film.

It starts off a bit slow, but at one point it seems as if a switch is turned on and the movie moves from being interesting to amazing. On nearly every level the movie delivers. As you know it's subtitled. To me subtitles take you out of a movie to a certain degree, but here this was countered by a brilliant atmoshere that sucks the viewer directly in. The emotional undercurrent of the movie is very strong and impacts every aspect of the movie. And that emotion is perfectly captured by the beautiful soundtrack, which can be heard at the movie's official site.

Although some have complained that there wasn't enough of a fantasty element to the movie the balance seemed perfect to me. Both the fantasy world and the real world were very interesting to me, and both intersected.

Visually the movie was stunning imo. There were parts where I literally stared with my mouth open lol. The same can be said of the more...violent visuals. Actually, "violent" may be an understatement. There is a lot of intimate violence in the movie, which to me is the most powerful form of violence in movies. People were squirming in their chairs and even crying at some of the more extreme scenes (especially the cheek scene, holy shit).

Overall I thought the movie was very good, and delivered in nearly every way.

MY DATE:

We decided to meet at the theater. We got there about an hour before the movie started so we just sat around and talked. One of the things I like about her is that she's very, very funny. She has a rather dark/warped sense of humor, like mine, so when we get together the gloves are off. Which is strange because we barely know each other o_O

Tonight she was very...touchy. She gave me a hug when we met up; sadly her hair isn't long enough to touch from behind. Then while we were talking she'd grab my hand and knee. I was fucking shocked to tell the truth, and kinda just went with it. I didn't make any similar moves though and I think she sensed it. But when she grabbed my hand I grabbed hers too...

Should've invited her back to your dorm, but i guess you "making your move" is progress. Don't be like me when i was your age and have ridiculous standards of some magical woman that'll fall from the heavens exactly as you imagine her and be yours forever. If you're into her, definitely ask her out again.

You mean my big ass house? :p

But yea I know exactly where you're coming from about high standards. I have the picture of a perfect chick that I want in my mind, but I realize I'll never get her - she doesn't exist.

Every man has to lower their standards; we're all shallow and have high expectations of what we want. Lowering standards doesn't mean going out and getting a fattie.

It could be getting a girl like Cloudwalking, who's not omg amazing in terms of looks but is in terms of personality (and very cute).

I didnt mean to imply that you were lowering your standards. That girl sounds great! I hope it works out. I was just saying that you shouldnt feel like you "settled" for what you could get.

i thought i remembered reading about you getting the house from your dad or whatever, but didn't want to assume that when all you had was a lowly 10x20x10 box shared with a smelly roommate. In any case, you need to casually work the fact that you have a house into conversations with women. It comes off sounding a lot better, especially at 19. And you need to use said house to get as much pussy or cock as you can. Otherwise, it'll go all emo and burn itself down or something.

He's got it. It'll head into friendzone soon unless you make a move. If she was holding your hand, she wants some contact. Just look her dead in the eyes and if she holds your gaze, PD, make it happen. Do it for us.

And you have a house! You've got one up on every stupid, useless dude in college. Invite her over. MAKE DINNER. And then have "dessert". God fuck do it.
