I still don't understand what this gamergate shit is really about. As I understand it, there's some sexism stuff, and then a female journalist complains, and then a bunch of manchildren complain and argue there's no sexism in the industry and the grand problem is really ethics in games journalism??

Ethics in journalism is the stated purpose of GG, but really it's just about people being upset that women are making videogames and being taken seriously by games journalists.

Okay, I didn't read much of the Gamergate thread at all.

I remember, over the past few years, there being some valid concerns about money-hatted reviews of big budget games that resulted in inflated review scores.

If that actually happened, that's a valid complaint about "ethics in journalism".

I have no idea how this ties into Zoe Quinn, who made a free to play browser based game about living as a severely depressed person (calling that a niche title is quite the understatement). I played it. Having experienced periods of severe depression myself, it was a cool experience. But I don't understand why a free to play browser game kicked off this whole kerfuffle when there are overrated franchise shooters getting 9.5/10 review scores only for the entire audience to come to a consensus that the game sucks within a month.

Because she fucked someone that wasn't the socially awkward spergfit nerdlingers that have since doxxed and threatened to rape like dozens of women, duh.
