Kinda sad that he's not still making movies, but not as sad as I would be seeing him forcing himself to keep pumping out shit movies. Good for him for doing what he loves.

I've always been a fan of John Carpenter's music, it always felt like it complemented his movies really well.

I've always loved his music and his scoring. Even if every damn song sounds the exact same to me. I still enjoy it.

considering his last Escape From movie was damn near a remake of the previous one (also, Ghosts of Mars = Sci-Fi Assault on Precinct 13), perhaps its not so bad that he's hung it up for films.  Whenever I think of great genre directors fucking up their own legacy, I think of how much happier I probably would have been if Argento had retired sometime in the early 90's.

also, I know that he's a big dudebro gamer, which I find delightful to think of ancient John Carptenter wasting kids/teens on Call of Duty/Madden (yes he really does this).

I don't mind Carpenter rehashing themes. Hell, I'll probably feel less taken for granted over Ghosts of Mars than I will over Star Wars prequels, or even the insipidly honest 22 Jump Street.

I love Escape from LA. I think the concept is just a great one that works. I wouldn't mind every 20 years or so a new one coming alone that satirizes what ever is going on currently in society and reboots itself. Not that Carpenter or Kurt Russell have to be the ones to do it.
