Did you see her announcement speech? Her advisor's must have told her she seems to manly or something. Because she acted overly perky trying to seem more womanly. She said stuff like she wants to have "a nice little chat" with the American people.

You know what? Thank god for Bush being a failure.

It is saving us from 8 years of McCain due to Bush's mess spreading to McCain.

McCain's previous appearance as a man of principle only makes his fall into cheap pro-Bush demagoguery even MORE insulting. And outside of Hillary's stance on videogaming and censorship overall, what makes her so loathesome -as a candidate-? She's pretty much straight-up moderate liberal.

If Hillary is the nominee(barring some major major change in Iraq) then she is going to be the next President and the Internet haters have to get used to it.

The thing is at this point any single Democrat in the top tier likely could win in this environment. The same poll asked people between a generic democrat and generic republican. The Republican only got like 30% of the vote.

America just plain doesn't want a Republican in the white house and the more connected to Bush they are (HELLO MCCAIN) the harder they fall.

I saw McCain on Meet The Press the morning and it showed me a reason why he can't win.

The surge is so insanely unpopular, the Republicans are even fighting it except McCain...etc So what does John Edwards start doing? He starts calling the surge "The McCain Doctrine" to attach the insanely unpopular policy to the likely GOP nominee to hurt McCain. Tim Russert asks McCain about this and what does McCain do?

McCain says he is glad that is what it is called and fully supports attaching his name to the much hated policy. What a fool.

Republicans could really take it if the GOP infighting calms down and they shift way to the center -- the real center, not John McCain's hijacked "Straight Talk Express". But they have to get their shit together now. 1/3 of Republicans it seems are either siding with Democrats or forming similar ideas. And this is at the very beginning of the 110th Congress, so we can expect more Republicans to start jumping ship. If the core of the GOP stops being selfish and gives into a true centrist stance, things could get interesting depending on how the public responds.

Think if they picked Rudy. I don't think they would, but then again maybe there is a delayed response to this 2006 wakeup call that the GOP has yet to show us. Hillary (or any Democrat) would then have to worry about states like Ohio, Florida, AND New York. New Yorkers love Rudy. Quite an uphill battle.

Drinky: I don't know why so many people have a problem with Hillary. I think she's a turnoff to a lot of men who hate the idea of a woman in charge (regardless of party, and boy do we have a lot of men like that in this country), and women who perhaps aren't as passionate and competitive about the workplace... Hillary in the distant past said she isn't just going to "stay at home and bake cookies all day" or something like that. That kind of thing is a huge turnoff to lots of mothers out there, I'm sure. I can just see the anti-Hillary ads now, playing a quote like that and then saying "HILLARY CLINTON DOESN'T CARE ABOUT FAMILY VALUES!"

They won't wake up that quickly, no party can wake up that fast. It took Democrats 12 years to wake up from the massive Reagan Revolution of 1980.

All they have to do is make people think they're about change in one way or another -- especially if they focus just on Iraq. Think about it... if they're willing to sacrifice everything they've said about supporting Iraq, they probably wouldn't have to focus on much of anything else. This Week showed a poll taken with every big issue in the the single digits, except Iraq (48%)! The Republicans could pick a candidate who is ultra-conservative in every way EXCEPT he doesn't support the war, and they could really run with that.

Imagine if the GOP goes in for the kill in the eleventh hour and says "you want troops out of Iraq by next year? We'll do it, we promise." The moderate vote is once again up in the air.

I only think that this kind of thing could work for the GOP because, apparently, a lot of people that voted for Democrats last year didn't really want to, but HAD to, because the GOP was so stubborn -- but would have voted Republican if they were willing to change their message.

The problem is this:

McCain: Strongly for the surge and staying in Iraq, the most pro-Iraq War republican this side of Bush and Cheney

Rudy: Nearly as strong for the surge and staying in Iraq as McCain, he is very socially liberal but when it comes to the military and foriegn affairs he is all George W. Bush.

Romney: Just as pro-surge and staying in Iraq as the other two. He wants to be seen as the second coming of Reagan and being tough.

There is only ONE single republican that is not for the surge and sticking in Iraq who might be running. Chuck Hagel. But he hasn't got a chance in hell. He is the Republican version of Joe Lieberman. Democrats like the guy(hell look at liberal blogs, some want him as the VP candidate!) and Republicans think he is a traitor.

Republicans it won't happen. The Republicans have nominated the front runner every single time except once, 1964.

Democrats? Sure. They always pick a underdog. Every time except in 1984.

1984 Democratic primaries also was famous for having a black candidate nearly get nominated(Jesse Jackson got in a close second) and was the first time the democrats ever nominated a female(Geraldine Ferraro as the VP running mate)

SOUND FAMILIAR?  :lol

But the Republicans just got their asses kicked, and if they think the frontrunner idea is a bad one this time around, who knows what they will resort to doing?

And yes it sounds familiar, hopefully the result however is different...

It doesn't matter how they "think" it's how the money works. The Republican party very much relies on big names for their campaign donations, far more than the democrats. Meaning the front runner gets the big names on their side at the start and by then the others have no chance at making money.

Democrats rather than A LOT of money from few organizations have a lot of power in small donations from individuals or small groups. Meaning its MUCH easier for someone unknown to crack in due to grass roots.

Which is why we often see nobodies get nominated for Democrats.

Here is all you need to know: At this point in the last open democratic campaigns:

Early 2006:
Hillary Clinton is leading by a lot but Obama mania is growing

Early 2003:
Dean mania is taking the party by storm but John Edwards had decent support. Kerry who?

Early 1992:
Paul Tsongas was leading with Jerry Brown in there as the candidate for the liberals. Bill Clinton? Hah! Who cares about some local Arkansas nobody?

Early 1988:
Gary Hart looks to be the one to get nominated but Al Gore seems to be a strong alternative. Dukakis? Who is that?

DON'T WORRY YET Right now everything can change. Because every time in the last 20 years IT HAS!  :lol

For Republicans it's going to be McCain. You can't avoid that, the party will stick to it's traditions. It always has.

You're bragging about 2-3% leads? Didn't 2004 teach you anything :lol

Once the debates start and people see Hillary's abrasive talking style opinions will change. Obama lol.

Interesting note on Obama: I went to both my grandparent's houses today. The election came up and one of my grandmas said she was going to vote for Hillary. When my mom asked her about Obama she said she had never heard of him. So I got on YouTube and showed her Obama's entire DNC speech from 2004. Now it looks like she's an Obama supporter.

My other grandma has always been a hardcore Clinton backer so I was surprised when she said she was supporting Obama 100%. Sounds like she loves Bill but feels Hillary isn't fit to serve

47% of Americans say they don't know enough about Obama to form a strong view on him.

This will change. The question will be will it be for better or for worse?

Also note: in MI primary polling MI is Obama country. We support our fellow mid-western black guys I guess.

Sorry, I don't have any. But I've been living in NY my whole life and I don't remember hearing much people speak good about him. Then again, most people I know are black and hispanic. You won't hear anything good about him from most of us.  :P

Doesn NY vote for democrats most of the time anyway? I doubt this state will be voting for any republicans in the next election, regardless of who it is.

Gloria, you're always on the run now
Running after somebody, you gotta get him somehow
I think you've got to slow down before you start to blow it
I think you're headed for a breakdown, so be careful not to show it

You really don't remember, was it something that he said?
Are the voices in your head calling, Gloria?
Gloria, don't you think you're fallin'?
If everybody wants you, why isn't anybody callin'?
You don't have to answer
Leave them hangin' on the line, oh-oh-oh, calling Gloria
Gloria (Gloria), I think they got your number (Gloria)
I think they got the alias (Gloria) that you've been living under (Gloria)
But you really don't remember, was it something that they said?
Are the voices in your head calling, Gloria?

A-ha-ha, a-ha-ha, Gloria, how's it gonna go down?
Will you meet him on the main line, or will you catch him on the rebound?
Will you marry for the money, take a lover in the afternoon?
Feel your innocence slipping away, don't believe it's comin' back soon

And you really don't remember, was it something that he said?
Are the voices in your head calling, Gloria?
Gloria, don't you think you're fallin'?
If everybody wants you, why isn't anybody callin'?

And outside of Hillary's stance on videogaming and censorship overall, what makes her so loathesome -as a candidate-? She's pretty much straight-up moderate liberal.

Her version of centrism bothers me a bit.  It seems like triangulation is the only strategy she knows.  She's acutely aware of the issues where Republicans usually beat up on Democrats (wars, traditional morality, etc.), and she focuses her attention on those.

That's understandable, but she approaches those issues by co-opting the right-wing positions rather than building an alternate stance.  Her political calculus depends on the belief that a conservative American population stacks the deck against a Democratic candidate, so much so that that candidate can only win by repeatedly and loudly distancing themselves from the left wing.

I understand the need to be/appear moderate, and I can't remember her using any Lieberman-style rhetoric denouncing the peaceniks.  But Democrats with that mindset tend to support bad policy to prevent themselves from looking too soft, especially when it comes to war.

Kerry took a lot of flack for shifting his position on Iraq as he saw the anti-war stance pay off for other Democratic candidates, and rightly so.  But as long as I'm going to get stuck with someone who panders, I want someone who remembers to sometimes pander to me.

All that said, she's an automatic yes over any Republican (except maaaaaaybe Hagel).

The only reason I registered as a Democrat a year ago, and this is still the reason, is to put my vote towards a non Hillary candidate for the Democratic party.

OBAMA FTW.

I don't know how it works elsewhere but in MI you can vote in either primary regardless of your party, you just can't vote in both.

For example in 2000 Al Gore ran nearly un-opposed so the primary was useless to vote in that.

At this point Bush was winning every primary nearly and McCain was pretty much over, but Michigan Democrats showed up in droves and voted in the Republican primary, more Democrats voted in it than Republicans meaning McCain won Michigan and not Bush. Fun stuff.

If Rudy was beloved in NY then why did he run for the Senate in 2000 against Hillary Clinton, realize Hillary Clinton was destroying him in polls, and thus drop out instead of having to deal with defeat?

Pfft. Hillary was going to beat him and he knew it. If anything cancer would give sympathy votes.

Like look at Tim Johnson. He barely won 6 years ago and was likely to have tough competition in 2008. Till the stroke. He is in rehab now and if he is able to fully recover(looks likely right now) he'll sail to victory. Because "awww he had a stroke" guilt feeling.
