I have and always will cop to being what I describe as "an abstract humanist and a concrete psychopath." Basically, I am all for policies and programs that will benefit the most people, especially those most disadvantaged in society... but in my personal life, if you can't fucking do everything right I will tire of you within five minutes and sit there and imagine you being fed into a wood chipper. I feel that way towards about 95% of people I have to interact with, including family members and significant others.

Extract is the better movie, there I said it. (And The Goode Family was epic, butthurt over it from people who watched ten minutes was glorious. Especially since the show, like KOTH, was ultimately sympathetic to its characters while poking at their ways and views.)

Since you already took my most used line from the movie. "Which he spells thusly. With two D's as he says for a double dose of his pimping."

(That whole presentation and slideshow is maybe the best full scene of the movie.)

Second most used is probably: "And the UN, UN-Nazied the world. Forever." (I like gags about the past/present in future-set things, like Futurama's many versions of it.)

I enjoyed it overall. My biggest problem was that some things didn't make any sense. If no one in the future is smarter than the main character, how were corporations like Brawndo operating? And who were the business folk who were paying everyone?

Aside from that, it was pretty funny. I disagree with Esch about that opening part. In fact, almost all scenes involving the narrator were great, imo.

"And the number one movie in the country was called 'Ass'. And that's all it was. For 90 minutes. It won 8 Oscars that year. Including best screenplay."

Also, the lead chick has a great rack.

They kinda explained it as the corporations and stuff had all pretty much automated near everything at some point which is why throughout the entire movie Not-Sure is shoved into machines and the "idiots" just do whatever it says. But maintenance is poor as every place is dirty and the system easily thwarted by the semi-competent.

You see that when after they switch the plants to water, the Brawndo CEO calls in freaking out because the company has lost its marketshare and the computers automatically laid off half the country or something. And he can't do shit about it.

Judge and other KOTH alum like Greg Daniels (Parks and Rec) are better at subtle little pokes at common absurdities, rather than laying out some kind of grand treatise, something South Park was once more adept at doing.

I think Idiocracy was in some ways just using the "theory" to setup the premise to sell all their jokes. Office Space is similar. Even Beavis and Butthead and Silicon Valley are like this.

Extract suffers in terms of cult popularity because it doesn't have any broad premises (people are idiots, meaningless jobs suck, propane rules, etc.) for anyone to latch onto. And all the main characters aren't exactly sympathetic let alone champions not even the workers.

You're kind of going in hard on this one. All I said was I don't find it that funny and I find a lot of where the comedy comes from to be eye rolling. That's hardly calling it horrible or one of the worst movies ever. Yeah, I guess you can avoid the ridiculous cult fan base the movie has, but that doesn't change the fact that you can find a lot of it annoyingly pretentious either way.

Sorry that a personal opinion got you angry. I didn't think it was funny and the absurdity in it wasn't some thing I enjoyed.

It's got some good bits, but it's certainly not a great movie. Worth a watch if you stumble upon it and are in the mood for a silly comedy, but not something I'd recommend someone go out of their way to watch.

as others have said, the premise is neat but also kinda fedora-y (especially in retrospect), but the movie just kinda flatlines and is just another comedy film that comprised of skit-length ideas mashed into a narrative.

My personal theory on Idiocracy is that Mike Judge had a bunch of funny ideas about the downfall of society but had no idea how to execute them in movie form. If he were to make the execution better, he probably would have had to change or remove a bunch of shit and he wasn't willing to do that either. So he kind of said "fuck it."

A lot of funny premises but the movie is kind of weak overall. Three fedoras out of five.

There are some moments (everything involving Brawndo or the president for example) but a lot of it falls flat. Not just because of the fedora content but the delivery is rarely great either.

I dunno. Nothing to really argue with except for "I laughed." Everybody in the movie is dumb ass hell and things like Dumb & Dumber and this make me giggle. It's not highbrow humor like Stranglove or even smart dumb like Lebowski, but it was funny.

Someone still makes cars. Designs them, builds them, ships them. Someone still designs stores and buildings, and runs the factories that fill the stores and buildings with products.
