My wife and I didn't do any presents and we just gave money to charity, mostly abortion access services, Southern Law Poverty Center, animal shelters and mental health services.

Got a really nice wristwatch!  Very happy with it

Thinking about buying a next-gen console tomorrow though.  Do you guys think I should spring for the fifty buck off Xbox One?  Or just go with the PS4?  All I care about is playing the new batman game and final fantasy XV.  The Master Chief collection and Dragon Age look great too.

I got a bunch of Zelda stuff  :heartbeat (Nindroid, Polo, Puzzle) as well as a Fisher Space pen from the misses. I also got a bottle of Gollum pilsner along with a "Freeze glass." And of course I got some shirt that isn't my size and was probably clearance so when I take it back I'll have to spend more just to get something in the right size.

Oh and someone gifted me Lootcrate which I'm already a member of and they don't take returns, shouldn't they have known it was a duplicate.

All in all this Christmas was a C+ some folks tried harder than others, oh well here's to next year.

Those religious fundamentalist parents you're always shit talking didn't just buy you a PS4, that grim-dark LOTR game, The Big Lebowski and a game called Diablo: Reaper of Souls, right?

Correction: The "Ultimate Evil Edition" of Diablo: Reaper of Souls. :neogaf

I will admit that I've painted my parents with a broad brush all the times I called them fundies. They're conservative but not as conservative as some of the people I met at BJU.

They were much more strict when I was younger and went a bit crazy 4 years ago when I told that I was no longer religious. Now-a-days they just compartmentalize their religion like most people (who are religious).

Also, I was going to pay for the PS4 and the games but because I agreed to share them with my brother I ended up not having to pay for them. And my brother is a bit of an ninthing anyways so it's not like he's going to hog the PS4.  :PP

My husband had been wanting to get me a ring, but could never find quite what he was looking for. So he had a ring custom made for me with a rare Alexandrite, my baby's birthstone. It's awesome and the stone has crazy color changing properties under different lighting. It ranges from green to teal to purple depending on the time of day and if I'm in sunlight, florescent, incandescent, or a mix. I love it, and it'll be an awesome heirloom piece years down the road.

Wasn't expecting much else, but he still got me earrings, perfume, a robe and slippers, blu rays, etc. My family gave me some sentimental stuff and useful stuff, and like $125 cash and some gift cards.

Got my husband a ton of shit and was basically done shopping for him by Thanksgiving... but then I found a great deal on PS4 and like 5 games. lol I still gave him some of his other gifts and gave the rest to my parents to give to him.

MADE OUT LIKE BANDITS.

The kid tho. :dead So much shit. Some useless Frozen shit she loves, but a ton of books and puzzles, solar system stuff, musical instruments, paint supplies and easel, play doh, clothes and shoes, etc. A great mix of educational, creative, pretend play, clothes and plastic Disney shit.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I got her most of the useless plastic Frozen shit. Don't judge.

I love it! I have a lot of heirloom pieces from my grandma, and my bridal set has a more vintage feel. This ring has a vintage, timeless look that goes with all of my old jewelry and any newer stuff.

Just an FYI since you don't like diamonds, if you find a piece of jewelry you like with a diamond center stone, most jewelry stores can swap out the diamond for whatever stone you want. Depending on the stone, it'll usually drop the price as well. Diamonds are kinda dumb for a multitude of reasons.

Aww I'm so glad you got to spend time with your bf and his family. :heart

My wife and I waved off the holiday for ourselves, but the kids still needed some joy, so Santa visited. Mrs. Santa somehow even managed to find the new release of Yokai Watch Shin-Uchi which FUCKING NO-ONE HAS IN STOCK. There were snacks and books and not a single pair of socks or strictly useful items to be found anywhere.

I'm guessing you've imparted a bunch of American/Western Christmas traditions on your kids. How different is their perception of Christmas compared to their friends?

It’s really different.

New Year’s first three days are the bigger deal for family and presents here. Christmas is a day like any other; nothing is closed, everyone is doing business. Going shopping on Christmas Eve on my first holiday in Japan was one of the most disorienting experiences I’ve had in Japan.

Most unmarried people use the holiday as a chance to take a loved one on a date. Married couples may not even take note of the holiday.

My kids are big fans of it, because we do it up secular ‘Murican style: gifts, food, Santa, and almost no mention of The Jesus.

Yeah, that happens, but it's not as big a deal as most articles make it out. I guess they do more biz this month than the others combined. It's a triumph of marketing, blah blah blah; it says more to me about the group mindset and doing what everyone else is doing.
