Burger King isn't gone, but I miss it all the same.
« on: December 30, 2014, 10:04:54 PM »

This is something out of my New York Elementary School cafeteria. I feel unexplored sadness from my youth creep in the longer I stare at it.  :goty2

.

:what Where is the production value here?  Even for a highly touched-up photo this burger is looking flabby and sick.

It seems like just yesterday that Burger King was the Sega to McDonald's Nintendo.  When did this downward spiral begin?  I refuse to believe this is the same game BK strutted in the 90s.

I loved the XL, the long burger in the late 90's. Shit was cash, yo.

Burger King is nasty as fuck now. Shit is for children.

I think you got the starting point with your second image, or at least that's the point it became apparent to me that something is not right. I actually tried a 4 cheese whopper for the hell of it, their other weird whopper's were good but this is just... it's a whopper with two regular slabs of cheese, then some shredded cheese, and like, some cheese sauce. ??? It's not very good. The other thing is just a fucking ham sandwich. Go to subway if you are out/want a sammich and are too fucking lazy to make it yourself. Or just stop being a shit and make your own damn sammich Jesus.

I just want to point out that the reason I posted "The Yumbo" is because I saw a huge poster for it outside a Burger King on my commute this morning.  Like, I understand having that sandwich off on the fringes of your menu cause you have a deal with a ham distributor or something, but that cannot be your center-stage sandwich breh.   :comeon

I had a Whopper a few months ago and after one bite, I threw it in the trash.  Burger King was never very good to begin with but somehow it got even worse.

Plus every Burger King I drive by seems to be in some kind of disrepair.  I think people who want fast food and want it to be a level above McDonald's goes to Wendy's, In N Out, Hardees, etc.

They just renovated the BK in Arnold, but let's be honest, if its fast food, it'll never die in Arnold. At one point there were 4 McDonald's for a town of 30K.

The BK by my house has a 24 hour drive thru and serves breakfast until 11. I can't complain.

Well I mean it is pretty dirty, but there's always a really nice guy working that has flipper hands and I feel bad saying anything. They also have a freestyle coke machine, so there's that.

It's funny because over here Burger King is always empty and yet chik-fil-a which is literally next door needs two drive thru lanes just to accommodate their traffic. Hell that place is so popular they have an attendant OUTSIDE and takes orders himself. No intercom. Yet BK, which used to be the number 2, is empty almost all the time. Whenever I see a line at BK I'm actually SHOCKED.

One thing about Burger King is that their food has probably the lowest shelf life of any major chain. Like if you lived in the parking lot even if it started out as the Zoo Scene from The Lost of Us you're already eating a Call of Duty by the time you get home. You better be within like five minutes of one if you're going to try and take it home/back to work/etc.

Fast food shredded lettuce is the real enemy here*, also so is cutting it so it's only the dull and boring leafy ends. We should unite against our common foes rather than splintering into extremist factions.

Taco Bell's are a little thin, a local place that makes their own everything makes them a little thicker and different so their structural integrity doesn't fail when you look at it.

Pretty much, yeah.

I've never had so many orders end up fucked up or just bad than the stuff I order at Burger King.

It's fast food.  I've never been a place that didn't fuck up an order on multiple visits.  The best of them all is a local Arby's that is the cleanest fast food joint outside Japan that I've ever been in.  They only fucked up an order once and gave us free food to make up for it.

I think they have the best burgers (compared to Wendys and McDonalds), but it's not to such a large degree that I ever go out of my way to go there. The best thing I can say about them is there is never a line there. You can pull right up and get your food if you are in a rush.

I'd rather get a Wendy's burger, or better yet, go to Krystal (like White Castle, but better) instead.  Of course for a real burger, I'd rather avoid all that shit and go to Farm Burger or something.

If we go to McDonald's or Burger King, there's also the problem of getting "parked," I.E. told to pull up near the door and wait while they cook more fries or chicken.  Happens way too often.  The local McDonald's also is also the worst offender when it comes to leaving stuff out of orders.

But again...it's fast food.  I've had people fuck up orders at Subway and Chipotle, too.  So even with you standing right there, saying and pointing out what you want right in front of them...they still fuck up.

I still prefer a whopper done by somebody that gives a shit vastly over anything at McDonalds and I like the triple cheeseburger on a long burgerbread with Jalapenos when they have those. Haven't eaten there since there was a big scandal around hygiene and working conditions at their biggest franchise partner here in germany though.

I don't even bother with that anymore-- there's a Dunkin Donuts right near the local BK and their stuff tastes better.

That reminds me, one time I ordered a breakfast sandwich of some kind from BK "plain."  My wife didn't want anything extra on it.  They gave her two pieces of bread.

 :lol Awful.

Usually when I get drive through, my wife is in the car and she will check everything, but sometimes I just drive off without realizing it.  Unless the line is full, I just circle back around and tell them what's missing.  The Wendy's nearby has a woman who always goes "what did they forget this time?" when this happens.  You are the one who is supposed to be checking for this, idiot.    :dizzy  Never get an apology for it.

In contrast to my experiences abroad-- in Japan there was a McDonald's near my in-laws.  I went there and got a McRib.  Didn't want mayo.  Mayo was on it.  Went back and they apologized profusely, then huddled up to have a meeting discussing the problem and got me a new sandwich.

I remember taking a poor-ass roadtrip down the eastern seaboard ~2000 and we ate at Burger Kings all the way since they had a $1 whopper deal going.

It almost seems like the recipes are the same but the ingredients now are just on a race to the bottom. I distinctly remember preferring them to Wendy's but now the thought of that? :rofl

Turns out a group of Brazilian capitalists (3G Capital) bought out Burger King and introduced extreme cost cutting measures.  As a result, they source the cheapest shit possible, which explains why the food sucks.  They also have a "spend the money like its your own" policy which is why so many BK restaurants look like shit.

Wendy's is nice but their pricing is high enough where you might as well just go to an Applebee's or whatever.

I only go to BK when

1. I want to try something new that they have
2. I need fast food during lunch and all the other restaurants have long drive thru lines except them

Seriously I drive by a lot of fast food places during lunch and BK is the only one with a small line. McD is always packed, I'd never go there during lunch. Taco Bell tends to have deent lines, and even longer ones late at night. And Wendys is always full of old people for some reason plus the drive thru line is long.

If you're at the point in your life where you're going to BK, just be honest with yourself and go to McDonalds instead.
As a guy who lives without his beloved In-N-Out, Five Guys, or any other reasonable burger source, I will tell you straight up that BK is tastier by far than McD's. Japanese McD's service is better, and their restaurants are better kept, but BK has better hamburgers.

I always liked BK best for breakfast. Croissanwich + hash browns. Nom nom.
I've had one of those, and was not impressed. On the other hand, I am a rabid fan of McDonald's breakfast sandwiches, particularly the Sausage McBiscuit, which is pretty much the most addictive substance I've dabbled in. That damned sandwich... when I had regular access to it, I was 20 lbs. heavier.

McGriddles suck donkey balls though.
